A couple of questions about the game...

Post » Fri Mar 07, 2014 5:44 am

I'm trying to decide about buying this game or not. I'd like to ask questions to help me choose.

First, how does the pvp work? Is there a structured pvp, with arenas (I don't care much about those) or just the open world pvp in cirodiil and maybe other places? Regarding open world pvp, what about death penalties? GW2 forced me to explore the open world pvp zone (also a pve zone) naked to avoid the huge repair costs, and still managed to cost a lot as teleport to a base after that has a cost there...

Second, how quick is quick travel through waypoints? I used to read books while my character traveled in LOTRO...

Third: is this game in first or third person? Yeah, it sounds stupid, but you must understand I started really caring about this game after the NDA was lifted, because of my less than satisfactory experiences with other MMOs and because I didn't want to get invested in something that nobody knew anything about (yet everyone, including me, was skeptical...)

Fourth: how is economy structured? Let's talk currency!

Thank you for your help!

1) Open World PVP / PVE mix in Cyrodiil -- All other factions / Zones are PVE only

2) About 20 - 30 secs with good internet speed and system

3) It is up to you -- once can change POV at anytime

4) IDK, hard to say at this point -- It is beta and no one is really tried to make long term goals for a char that going to be wiped -- we have to wait after the release to find that info out.

1. Cyrodiil is the only place where you can PvP. It's a 3 faction war, and there are no death penalties. You spawn at keeps your faction controls.

2. Travelling through wayshrines is instant (Well, 5 second cast), but it costs gold. The gold cost has a "cooldown", as in, if you teleport somewhere, but want to go somewhere else immediately, it will cost a lot more than if you waited 10 minutes.

3. Both. But in first person, your field of view is reduced, thus giving you a slight disadvantage with regards to combat awareness. This only really applies to PvP, or boss fights.

4. Buying and selling is all done through chat, or the guild auction houses. You have to be a part of that guild to use the AH.

Fast travel is free if one uses wayshrine to wayshrine. It only cost gold, if one does not use a wayshrine.

A note about way shrines and cost: It doesn't cost anything to teleport between way shrines. I.e. start and end point are both way shrines. Cost to teleport to a way shrine from anywhere else (any way shrine, all the same cost) is based on your level. There's no travel time for way shrines, just the time it takes to load the new area, which depends on your connection speed and system speed (and the how fast the servers are at the moment).

I've already been screwed over so many times by this exact line!

I like the elder scrolls, and when I saw the mini-pet you get with pre purchase that alone almost convinced me, not because of the mini-pet, but because of the bigger, angrier version of it that probably roams the game waiting to attack players!

Yet as I said it's better to ask questions than to regret purchasing later (something that will probably happen for a different reason). Also I was very curious about those things.

Another question about economy: it appears (from other threads) that there will only be gold coins. Is there junk loot to be sold to make some money? How much does a lvl 10 vendor ingredient (as in, an ingredient you can only find at an NPC vendor) cost?

There are now a number or good videos of beta gameplay online. I would recommend watching a few of those. They will probably answer most of the questions you asked here and some you haven't thought of. Then you will either be incredibly psyched to play the game or pass on it.

Cyrodiil has both pve and pvp, if you get killed in pvp there will be no repair costs. If you get killed by a random mob when you're out adventuring you will have to pay for repairs. If you die in Cyrodiil you can pick where you respawn for free, the places you respawn in can't be under attack by other factions though.

The only stuff i ever bought for crafting were the class tokens, i think they were like 4g?

Also, no doubt it will be exceedingly easy to get a beta key in the upcoming beta event (which will probably be the last one), so why not try it for yourself?

Just keep an eye out either on this board or on ESO's twitter, and there will likely be announcements of several thousand key giveaways on various fan sites.

No official word yet, but it seems likely it will be Friday 3/14 - Sunday 3/16.
