A couple questions..

Post » Wed Aug 17, 2011 10:12 am

Hey guys, I'm new to the forums but I just want to know a few things.

Is it possible for one character to obtain all dragon shouts? As I heard there is no set limit for number of dragons, so I don't see why not.

It has been said that we can create our own weapons through raw materials etc, can we actually create our own weapons, or is there a set list of what we can create? Basically will we be limited to what we can make?

Thanks :)

Welcome to the forums. For yor 1st question, im pretty sure it will be possible to learn every single dragon shout there is. It wouldnt make sense to be able to not learn/use a select few shouts, so I think you can learn/use all shouts.
For your 2nd question, yes you can craft weapons in Skyrim, but there will most likely be a pre-determined list with whats creatable with the materials you have at hand. I still think this is an awesome new feature in Skyrim, and im looking forward to making a lot of unique weapons.

For the first we have absolutely no idea but I'd think aslong as you find all the Walls/kill the appropriate dragons you'd be able to get them all, time consuming as it may be. Not being able to would be nice though. Presents something new for future playthroughs.

As for raw weapon creating you'd make from a set list and probably can't name your weapons. You can however bolster your weapon. If it changes in looks if you do with the grindstone I have no clue.

Why would you be limited to created weapons? Just that. The weapons had to be designed in the first place, thus a predesignated list. I'm sure it'll be a healthy amount. We're not privy to all the weapon customization options, if any though.

If you want more distinct weapons/want to model your own/etc. PC Mods/xbox 360 developer kit is the way.

Thats cool then, also do you know how they work? As they work differently to spells, do they use magika? Can you only use one type of shout a day etc?

and I would assume there would be a list as well, I just hope their is a fair few you can create.

For the second part refer to my post above. If you mean creating shouts? Bethesda mentioned swapping around the Words of Power to make your own dragon shouts was on the table. But they ditched it so you get the ones they made and the 3 levels each have.

As for what the Shouts use. There's an overall sort of "energy bar" the Shouts all use and deplete bars from. Shouts have cooldown times.

Hi and welcome to the forums! I would give you a fishy stick but i just ran out! sorry! Now to answer your questions:

1. There are three levels to every dragon shout and yes it is possible to obtain all of them in all three levels, however I believe you obtain them by finding "wordwalls" not by absorbing dragon souls, those just give the ability to know more words. I'm not positive about that last part though

2.You are correct that you can forge your own weapons. I believe they said at quakecon there are three types of activities you can do with a forge. You can create new weapons, improve existing ones, and improve existing armour I believe. You forge the weapons out of ores that you mine. There are 13 different types of ores you can find and mine so there's a fair amount of variety in that regard. When forging I doubt you will be able to create weapons that don't already exist (like spears, crossbows, etc...). But with the different amount of different ores you can use and I'll bet that you can personalize forged weapons with like designs and stuff although that hasn't been confirmed.

Yeah but what I was getting at was like something like Fable 3, where you could maybe get a few that were unique to your world, and a fair few others, just an idea, I'd love to get something awesome one of my friends couldn't get, but then again that could work against me haha.

Yes I think that using shouts will be somewhat limited to how often you can use one to prevent abusing the power of it. Whether that means that dragon shouts will only be usable once a day like the powerful spells from Oblivion we do not know yet. And I wouldnt worry about the amount of weapons that will be creatable. Considering the vast amounts of material that will be collectible in the game world, I think there will be many options for weapons crafting.

I answered your second post by the way. As for things your friends can't get. Well this isn't a multiplayer game so eventually or if you search on the internet you'll learn how to find or make anything in the game.

However I wouldn't be surprised depending on your skills if you can make items they can't or if you find one or those weapons in the game that is well hidden/requires a hard task. I never found all the unique weapons in Fallout 3 nor Obsidian's New Vegas.

Is that energy bar in the HUD, cus I don't recall seeing one for just shouts in any of the videos, only a bar for Health, Magika, and Fatigue.

Once a day? So far no mentioned so I highly doubt it. Just keeping the bar filled and having the Shouts cooldown finished will let you use it. Each shout has it's own cooldown by the way.

In watching the Quakecon demo video where Todd fights the two dragons, after he killed the first one and absorbed its soul he then assigned the soul to the Storm call shout to bring it to the third level. So my understanding is that you learn the shouts by discovering the word walls and level them up by assigning dragon souls.

Yeah that is how it works, as far as I know

Yea I wasnt saying that dragon shouts will only be usable once a day. I agree that is highly unlikely. I just think that Bethesda is going to implement something that will limit how often you can use a specific shout. It would be pretty cheap to spam a powereful shout on multiple enemies in mere seconds during combat. Hopefully it will take significant cool-down time to be able to use that specific shout in combat again.

PC mods work on 360 developer kits. I don't mean consumer 360s nor PS3s. Now there's a Mod store Zenimax is trying to push Microsoft and Sony to let them open. That's still being pushed around though

That would be so awesome if they actually did that, I used to have oblivion on PC, and I love how users have mods that you can use in your own game, genius, if they did that I probably would never play anyother game, ever. I mean you'd have even more, weapons, armors, a dragon mount.

hey there,
i'm new aswell
to be honest i'm not sure, they're will be some restrictions i'd say.. but maybe alot of different choices when making weapons..hopefully it'll be done in such a way that appears as though there's loads of choices, cleverly done.
i too believe we'll get all the dragon "shouts".
keep in mind this is only ny opinion, and i'm not an expert in gaming.
