A couple of suggestions for settlements:

Post » Thu Nov 26, 2015 5:13 pm

Please feel free to add to this.

A couple of quick things I've noticed that- if Bathesda doesn't fix, I certainly hope the modding community will..

For starters- and- speaking abstractly- dear GOD work needs to be done with structures snapping to each other (walls to floors, etc...). Building things is sort of a pain in the ass right now. A terrain leveling tool also would be handy.

1. FULLY DEMOLISH/REMOVE: For the love of Pete, please let us demolish all of the structures within a settlement. I don't want the houses that are there. Keep the foundation plots (if you must), but, let us tear down all of the buildings / remove all of the plants/bushes.

2. STORING ITEMS: It took me far too long to realize that when you "store" an item in a settlement, it doesn't go to your workbench. The game just randomly plops that item down somewhere else in the settlement. I was like: Why the hell does Sanctuary have so many sofas?. If I store something, please place it in the workbench so I can clean up the settlement.

3. ADDITIONAL SETTLEMENTS: Please give us the option to relocate settlers between settlements. I hate that I have four settlements with three people each. Ideally, I'd like to get a new settlement, drop a turret and a recruitment becon and then set a waypoint so taht those new settlers show up in Sanctuary (one settlement w/ forty people instead of ten settlements with four people). Then, if and when we want to expand into a new settlement and build it up for some reason, we can.

4. SETTLMENT UI: Please add a way to better understand what is happening with the people in our settlement with regards to who is assigned to what task. Even something as simple as the NPC's name changing from, say:

Settler = unassigned

Settlement Guard = assigned to guard post

Farmer = assigned to tending crops

Caravan Leader = assigned to supply route

It's such a pain in the ass to try and set something only to have your food supply tank.

Is this true? I have never noticed/experienced this. Everything seems to go to the storage/workbench. Can anyone confirm, or am I maybe misunderstanding the point you are trying to make?

I agree with your other points.

so, after storing like... the 30th chair, I went to the workbench to see if there really was that many chairs and none of them were in the workbench and all of the things I had stored were in the rooms of the little house near it.

Go into your workshop and hover over a settler. Should be an option. At work and on my phone so I can't be 100% precise on how to do it, sorry.

well, what do you know! I guess there are still "essential" people that can't be moved, which, still sort of svcks, but, learn something new every day!

Don't want to hijack the thread but, does anyone know how to power up stuff like the jukebox? I can't pull power cable to it and I have more than double the required power requirement. And how do you turn on new lights?

Go into build mode.

Click on settler: command

You then have an option to 'move'...

Not sure if it's the "right way" or whatever, but, the only way I got things to power up in a house was by connecting the generator to a "power switch" and then connecting the power switch to a capacitor thingy on the roof, however, the capacitor thing seems to have a pretty short range and one doesn't seem to power the whole house.

I guess I'm misunderstanding the point you are trying to make. You don't 'store' furniture items, you disasemble them into their component parts (wood/fabric/screws etc), these items are stored in the workbench. You can chose where to place the items you build (chairs, other furniture for example) in the settlement.

The same is true of items you place in the workbench 'inventory' (by using exchange) -- any items you place in the inventory will be be available in that settlements inventory (workbenches/weapon benches, etc).

There is an option to "scrap"- say a chair- and get base components for them and there is an option to "store"- say a chair, which, I took to mean: "dont' dissamble this, store it so that I can place it somewhere else." And, as I said- I noticed chairs and sofas and [censored] piling up in the hosue w/ the workbench as I did that instead of like "chair x 30" showing up when I click "transfer" on teh workbench (which would be the way it should work, imo).

How did you get a capacitor on a roof or did you build the roof? I had to run wall capacitors along the workshop house to get working lights and yeah it seems like its a radius thing for those capacitors. Havent played with switches yet as ran out of copper.

to the OP I agree with all points, settlements was my main draw to this version and feeling more frustration from lack of decent tools, I havent expanded any of them yet but dread having to, trying to figure out who is doing what.

What I did in my house(I built it) was use the giant power polls every so many feet around the outside of my house(up against the walls), and they have about a 10 foot radius to power things inside the house. It's kind of stupid how short of range they have, and the big ones only have a few more feet of range than the small ones which is dumb, but I needed it. I like it better than having wires all over my ceiling connecting to capacitors in my house going through my front door and up my stairs to the second floor it looked cluttered and ugly.

There are 3(or 4?) kinds of capacitors; ceiling ones that face down, wall ones, and floor ones. They have about the same radius of range as the power polls do.

Hey peeps first time poster on this forum , not new to fallout , played 3 and nv , LOVING F4 thus far ...

Anyway ...
I had this issue with the power distribution too , generator to a switch and only half my house lights work and no tele ? Is it so simple as range ? Do I just whack a load more connectors and switches round the house ?

Put a larger generator beside the building, add a small "circuit" to the wall of the house or building, connected to the generator with a wire. Now put lights and appliances in the house and they're supplied to the maximum the generator can output in power.

I would like to add, we need dual keys for movement in build mode. I changed the W & S keys to the arrow keys, in build mode I can only move sideways. I feel like a crab.

They do go into storage, but they are not view-able from the workbench. If you store something and then try to build another of the same item you will see the picture of the item to build has a number in one of the bottom corners, which is the number you have in storage. The if you build the item, it will be pulled out of storage, the number will go down and no resources will be used.

With regards to the power, there is a you tube video by curse entertainment which explains it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2MK_OtrUHk4

On the power thing make sure you have lots of copper for wires. On the x1 you press Y while building. each item has a point where you attach the wire. Depending on the distance will depend on how much ypu need.

OT: I just store everything in the workshop. If I want to keep it I put in a steam trunk.

That doesn't seem to work for me, I created a thread due to it, I have the number next to the structure I want to use, but It still takes resources from me, and items I've stored like the discoball I cannot use because I don't have enough copper, though by this logic because I already made and stored the disco ball i should be able to just pull it out and place it.
