[WIP] Courier's Armor

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 7:57 am

I'm working on releasing a new outfit. It's basically finished right now, except for two things.
First of all, I'm still waiting on permission from Geonox to release this since it uses the jacket and straps from his Riot Armor.
Second, and most importantly, this is my first attempt at editing and successfully exporting a mesh in Blender, and I can't get it to work right. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong there, and there are so many damn things that could be going wrong...

Here's the armor:

Now the reason I'm making this post is really so that I can ask for help.
When I try using the armor in-game, the whole thing is invisible (when I view it in the GECK, only the legs/chest I ripped from the Ranger armor are displayed).
And the odd thing is, I really do mean invisible. No visibly distorted or pink model, no big triangle, nothing at all. Just my character's head, hands and Pipboy.

I downloaded everything found here: http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=12248
And I followed the instructions exactly, with a few necessary exceptions. For example, I exported the mesh as a Fallout 3 model rather than Oblivion, and I had to rip the skeleton from the Ranger armor by deleting the meshes attached to it through Nifskope before importing it over my own mesh in Blender, rather than using what ever other skeleton was being referenced in the instructions.

If someone well experienced would like to look at the files directly to really help me out, just PM me your email address and I'll send you the mod. I already have the proper file structure and the ESP placing the armor in-game at Doc's house.

Mind providing an ingame screenshot just to get a better idea of how the problem is.

Remove the DT and give it +100 sneak as a stat.

Call it "Invisible man's Armor"

Release that, then see if you can find a fix for your problem :P

Did someone vandalize the GECK wiki? I had the realization that this might be caused by me saving the texture as DXT1 compression (I figured the alpha channel was extraneous.. likely a mistake), so I wanted to see what the proper compression for this game might be. But when I went to look at the texturing guides on the wiki they were all, as far as I can tell, gone.
In fact everything not relating directly to use of the GECK seems to be gone.

Does anyone here happen to know what the proper compression is?

-Edit- Aw, I really thought that might be it. I added back in the alpha channel and saved it as DXT3, but it still looks exactly the same.
-Edit again- Ah, I was actually right when I originally decided the alpha channel wasn't needed. The vanilla armor textures don't have them either. So it's gotta be the mesh...
Unfortunately, because the GECK wiki may have been vandalized, I can't look there for additional guides on exporting meshes.
