Courier 6

Post » Sun Aug 21, 2011 2:15 am

OK, here's something that's been bugging me for a while. When you first talk to Johnson Nash and he tells you about the six package deliveries, he says that the courier hired before you (Ulysses) to take the platinum chip saw your name next on the list and says 'let courier six take the package'.

The thing this, if Ulysses was originaly going to take the package surely that would make him courier 6. If your name was below his in the list that wouldn't that make you courier 7?

Ulysses couldn't be courier 5 because the package instructions you get clearly state (i think) 6 of 6, which would suggest the other 5 couriers were already hired.

I am confused? Thinking to much into this? Need to go outside and do something more constructive? possibly.

Maybe that is the Couriers actual name - Courier 6.

The Courier was originally Courier 7, but Ulysses' leaving made him Courier 6.

I like to think the numbers have something to do with the story. The Courier is originally number 7, which means luck. Ulysses tries to sentence the Courier to take the place of number 6, a number associated with 666 and the thought of doom, death and destruction. However, since that's not the Courier's intended fate, he ends up cheating death, cheating his fate and surviving the gunshots thanks to pure luck.

Yeah, that's a pretty good theory Longknife. It seems in every DLC it is mentioned that The Courier is lucky. I'm hoping this final DLC finally wraps everything up and leaves me jaw-dropped.

Nice thinking. I can't wait to see how this storey wraps up in LR.

I can't help but think that it would have made more sense for Ulysses to say 'let courier 7 take the package'.

That's an interesting theory. Yes. the part about Courier 6 I had always just accepted that you WERE #7 and had taken #6's place.

What if each courier that worked for the Mojave Express just had a number attacthed to them? Like one of the above posters said, what if that was just his name with the Mojave Express? The "lucky theory" is really good though and probably is right, if not, being the closest.

I have been staying away from spoilers so I read this by accident. So we finally get to see the person who refused the job and gave it to us?

This is the part that always confuses me- apparently Ulysses was surprised to see your name on the list... which would lead one to believe, if your name hadn't been on the list, that he would have just taken the job normally and gotten killed instead of you?? Or, if he had preknowledge of what the 'package' really was, and knew of the ambush (which is inferred by him wanting to give the job to you, after he sees your name in the list, meaning he expects you'll get killed doing the job), then what was he doing there ready to take and deliver that package, before he knew you were going to be on the list? It's a conundrum that I can't wrap any logic around.
