Court/ Justice System?

Post » Mon Jul 04, 2011 7:09 am

Anybody else think that if done properly, some kind of court system where you could appeal your case to a jury or judge would be a pretty cool addition to Skyrim?? This is just a thought, so tell me what you think, would it work or not? :tes:

There have been games where you do this as part of a quest...which I think is where such an idea should belong: quests.

Wonder if you can get the Death Penalty! Seeing as you are going to be executed at the beginning of the game! :shocking:

This would give speech craft more purpose, by having a high SC level you could have a better chance of getting away through trying to prove your innocence.

The justice system in Skyrim is probably more like Game of Thrones

GUILTY until proven innocent, or if a duck weighs more than you...

...unless you can get a trial by combat and pick your own champion to fight on your behalf

I think there are far better things to concentrate on the a court system. Plus, I NEVER go to jail, shame on you for getting caught.

it would give more depth to the social system where you can have npc friends.

imagine it, the judge asks if there is anyone who would fight for the accused and you see almost everyone in the group rally to your help.
brings a tear to the eye really.

This would take way too long to implement properly. I can't think of any game where a court system was done well, especially not in a game like ES where the possibilities for crime are endless. Realistically, this idea is stupid.

Daggerfall had this at a very minor level. Basically you would go to a court and they would say "You are guilty of this. Will you try to argue against the facts or admit your guilt?" If your speech was high enough and your crime was low enough, you could argue that what you did isn't worthy of jail time. Unfortunately, I think that a court system wouldn't really fit in Skyrim's setting. I don't think that if I hit a burly Nord for getting too touchy with a waitress that some guy in a powdered wig will address me in a courtroom. More like they'll throw me straight into the brig for a few days.

Yeah, very good point, but I feel like it would give skills like speechcraft more meaning than in a game like Oblivion

... Daggerfall had a superficial court system. And, there's a book on the subject in that game... a shame the elaborate court system in Cyrodiil disappeared between the Warp in the West and Emperor Uriel's assassination.

I think they should just go old school. Forget these trials and jail times. Corporal punishment!
