Cowboy build?

Post » Sat Nov 10, 2012 2:48 am

Title mainly says it all, can anyone give me a cowboy build, that is guns based, i cant really make any decent builds on my own, so if anyone could help me out, at least for the first 20-28 levels, i would be incredibly grateful.

I mainly plan on using heavy armor, and i would like to have speech as a major/medium priority skill, other than that nothing too major

I mainly plan on using heavy armor,

A cowboy would not wear heavy armor. It would piss off the horse.

Perks have more do with a Cowboy character than any SPECIAL setup. Also, the type of gun you choose to use, Level Action, 6 Shooters and Shotguns I would imagine would be the weapons of choice for a cowboy. It is around here where I live in Western Colorado.

I thought as much, i mainly plan on using lever action rifles, then if needed snipers, and i guess i mainly need a guns based character build

And sorry about the bump, its just when i make threads like these, they die, and for whatever reason, the updater, that updates the views and posts for the various forum topics, seems to be updating at a extremely slow pace

Okay basically here's what you do for a cowboy build, you look at all guns affected by that perk (revolvers, lever action firearms) and you just use those. Start with a .357 magnum that should fair you well for a while, especially if you buy some upgrades for it. Also if you level a bit before you get to the 'Nevada Highway Patrol station' (just past Primm) one of the Jackal members should have a Cowboy Repeater. A fully modified Cowboy Repeater will serve you very well! There is basically 3 tiers of each weapon;
Revolvers:
.357 Magnum. Unique version: Lucky
.44 Magnum. Unique version: Mysterious Magnum
Hunting Revolver. Unique version: Ranger Sequoia (Non-scoped variant)

Lever action rifles:
Cowboy Repeater. Unique version: La Longue Carabine (scoped variant)
Trail Carbine. No unique version but does have a scope modification which can be bought from Gun Runners.
Brush Gun. Unique version: Medicine Stick (If you have Gun Runner's Arsenal)

Other lever action firearms:
Lever action shotgun. No unique variant.

As soon as you hit level 8 take cowboy to give a 25% damage boost to all those weapons listed, with a revolver, Lever action shotgun and any of the rifles you'll be set to go (No need for a sniper rifle as most of the lever actions have a scope whether through upgrade, or unique variant). Also combat knives are affected by this (which makes Chance's Knife very useful).

In regards to your armour, for roleplay purposes wear clothes (Field hand outfit is a good choice), if not that light armour maximum, the Sheriff's duster found in the shack in Primm would be good and maybe Leather armour (Reinforced) for when things get tougher.

If you have any more questions, just ask. c:
