I wouldn't really say it has a "cowboy theme", but it is set in an area where that kind of stuff makes sense, so I like it.

Cool, but overdone. Too many lever-actions compared to pumps/bolts. Cowboy perk needs to be reduced from 25% or 20% damage, and effect fewer weapons.

The "cowboy" theme isn't that prevalent in F:NV.

Well, I can understand the setting, and why they would put it in but I did feel it had a strong affect on how they made the game. 'cowboy' weapons and clothing were very prominent.

I enjoy the cowboy theme. However, because Fallout 3 was my introduction to the Fallout world I do miss the colder, more industrialized look of D.C. with a heavier emphasis on the 50's. At least that was my general impression of Fallout 3 compared to New Vegas. New Vegas feels more ambiguous in its timeline and less connected to the Pre-War United States. Am I making sense? (...maybe not)

Not a fan, but fits the environment. Also not prevalent enough to cause issues for me :)

No horse, no cowboy.

Oh, and where are the hunting bows?

(Actually, I like the cowboy theme. Just want a damned horse and a damned bow.)

Well, i saw a ruin store the other day on patrol that had Cowboy hats, did not care for them myself, told a trader about them in exchange for info to a tech stash. Anyway, i thought it was overdone a bit, but i suppose i have no real complaints, it is the west as well......No...Your suppost to put the MF cell in like this! Excuse me, one of the Initiates got a MF cell jammed in his rifle. :banghead:

Insufficient supply of wood. (If you are planning on making a wooden bow)
A crossbow would be much more reasonable in the Fallout world.
We (or at least I) don't want the de-ja-vu of Oblivion all over again in Fallout with the bow and arrows.

I didn't not like it. But I think it was overdone so I didn't like it. You see, if you say you like it, it means you liked it, but clearly not so I say didn't not like it.

Ehhh, I think it was prevalent outside Vegas proper, but for good reason. Back in the Wild West, we had wild cougars and snakes and what have you that provided a real threat, now add into that bandits and various tribes hostile to outsiders, so I think despite it's prominence, it's much like Caesars style of law, it's used because it works.

Nah, I'd buy one or loot it from a corpse.
I see lots of wood, but that's irrelevant. The hard part would be finding the right wood.
But the Fallout world seems pretty good with synthetic materials.I'm sure the craftsmen at Gun Runners could fashion a great bow.
A crossbow would be much more reasonable in the Fallout world.

See, that's just funny; it's personal perspective, I guess, but crossbows seem more medieval to me than longbows. I'm very aware of modern crossbows -- I've shot 'em (poorly) -- they just make me think medieval.
We (or at least I) don't want the de-ja-vu of Oblivion all over again in Fallout with the bow and arrows.

I'm sure you wouldn't be required to use one.
My painful, tortured memories of that diabolical nightmare Oblivion prevent me from using leather armor, bladed weapons and clubs. I also can't fight, heal, craft or go on quests. Oh, the unending horror.

I really didn't care. Obsidian didn't quite overdo is, since they also added the "Vegas style"

Yeah didn't mind it, made NV have it's own flavour as this Western/Sci-Fi mash up.

But I did prefer the urban warzone of the DC wasteland and the heavy 1950's nuclear America thing more.

I like it. The mix of the wild west of the wasteland and the Mafia/Rat Pack theme of Vegas.

I actually really like the cowboy theme in NV. For some reason i think it goes well with the post-apocalyptic theme thats in all of the fallout games.

I like the western frontier theme of New Vegas, a lot more then Fallout 3's really overdone retro theme.

I neither liked nor disliked the cowboy theme overmuch when it appeared; overall I was pretty indifferent towards it.

Generally, I prefer the Rat Pack and World of Tomorrow! vibes prevalent in FO3, and in some areas of FONV,to the cowboy vibes; however, the cowboy theme was logical and well-executed when it appeared, so I have no complaints.

The whole post-apocalypse sub-genre is really just western combined with some sci-fi elements. You take the old west, add some modern technology and a lot of rubble and you have your post-apocalyptic movie/novel/game. It also works with anything samurai themed. It's all about people surviving in harsh, mostly lawless environments. That's also why western, sci-fi and samurai stories are often rewritten into one of the other themes.

Since I like westerns, I'm happy to see a bit more old west style in New Vegas.

What about a fibre glass compound bow and a battle cattle mount?

Think of Ted Nugent riding around on his lunch
