Crafting Arrows

Post » Sat Sep 24, 2011 3:32 am

Does anyone know if we will be able to craft arrows using the smithing skill and not just bows and other weapons/armor? This would be coolage of the highest order and would make this particular skill more viable and interesting for those of us who like to used ranged combat.

I would imagine so. Doesn't really make sense for it to not be in.

I don't know if arrows are craftable, but it would be a cool feature since arrows are supposed to be rare in Skyrim.

Well I honestly can't think of any decent reason why it shouldn't be possible.

Let's hope so for you guys, sadly I get bored of Marksman characters quite fast usually. :(

If arrows were 100% retrievable, then I wouldn't care, but since I was almost always in short supply in Oblivion, then I'd say I hope they are.

I never understood the Oblivion logic of shooting 7 arrows into someone then only be able to loot 2 back.

I know what you mean. I found that in OB, especially at higher levels, you could only really use the marksman skill to weaken your enemies and you'd then have to finish them off with melee or magic. But judging from the official videos the devs have released, the new archery skill in skyrim looks to be WAY more potent, what with the one-shot stealth kills in the dungeon area.

I never had this problem in Oblivion, but then I stole most of mine from the dark Seducers and Golden saints while they weren't looking. :ninja:

I certainly do hope that Arrows are 100% retrievable, it kind of annoyed me that they weren't in Oblivion. I would also love to craft them as well. You can never have too many arrows...can you?

If you hit your target it can barely get lost.

Sure, the shaft might break, but it's not very likely in all honesty. The arrow head itself will remain intact, maybe get a little blunt, but that's no biggie.

Being able to retrieve arrows from a body, espectially when killed with a stealth shot, is incredibly realistic. But I agree it shouldn't be 100%, as it might be a bit of a gory mess if you try to remove it from deep within the organs if the head is jagged.

The key to archery in Oblivion was making use of the sneak critical bonus. I played a stealth character, and I barely came into contact with my enemies and I almost always got one shot kills. But yeah, when that element of surprise is gone, archery becomes useless.

Some arrows break or get damaged in some manner of way, rendering them unfit for further use, duh :)

Like I said above: barely. It's more that they get deflected, but in that case (of blocking) you could retrieve them off of the ground in Oblivion.

A bit of a higher retrieve rate would be nice, around 70-80%. Most arrows don't travel too far into the body, and if they do... That's a valid reason not to be able to retrieve them, when they're lodged deep inside an organ.

But all in all it wasn't that much of a big deal in Oblivion, although it might be in Skyrim where you have a more respectable amount of arrows, rather than an infinite amount.

The idea behind that was that if your arrow hits a vital place it will one go through the squishy vulnerable bits and hit bone and break or that the arrow will be so deeply lodged in the person that it woul break if you tried to pull it out.

Well there's no fletching profession, and you smith the arrow heads, so...

Close enough?

I think the best thing to do is to tie fletching into the archery skill(mid level perk) and require smithing to make the arrow heads.

True. But fletching isn't a skill, wheras smithing is. Don't forget that in oblivion, axes were part of the blunt skill. Last time I checked, axes tend to be pretty sharp!

The point i'm making is that if they're in, they're in. It wouldn't make sense that they would leave them out because they did not quite "fit" into smithing bacause of a technicality.
