Crafting components looks a little simplistic

OK,this isn't a particularly big deal, but I wonder if it might be a bit trivially easy to make whatever you want.

The only example given is the gun sight- taking the glass from an alarm clock? Really?

Shouldn't you need something at least generally optical. Binoculars, microscope, even reading glasses wouldnt be too bad. Or maybe breakdown a laser weapon.

And something with a tube for the body should be necessary- water pipe, bike handlebars, etc.

I like the idea, and it obviously can't be actually realistic, but you know, vaguely believable would be nice.

When you're talking about making a red dot scope for a gun that turns people into piles of goo I think vaguely believable goes out the window.

Also gameplay and quality of life are real things that should be considered.

Does it make sense I can use parts from a toy car to make a scope? Not entirely, but there's also nuclear cars what explode when shot, so it's very possible said toy car happens to have abnormally strong/large screws holding the wheels on.

They did manage to stay intact all this time after all.

True, however this is not only unrealistic but it will also make it pretty trivial to make anything.

Stuff should have some connection so making an scope after breaking down an microscope and some other stuff or an laser pistol for all makes sense.

making an gatling of an wood chipper and 6 hunting rifles and some minor stuff too. No you can not do it real world but it makes sense.

On the other hand it might well be that the crafting we saw was an master crafter with all the perks, like the junk reloader and jury-rigger from FO:NV, without it you had to use the microscope and the tube.

You still need the rank and to collect the parts to craft.

Having 4 options doesn't make it trivial, and having to acquire some out of the way component isn't thrilling.

Again, gameplay>realism.

Hell, if you want, just don't use whatever component you find too outlandish to craft your gun that shoots flaming teddy bears.

I'd guess you also need to find the blueprint/design and have the right skill/perk to make it.

I'm just glad the items in the world now have a function. I carried that damn toaster around for 2 hours before realising it had no purpose.

Hahahahaha! This is exactly what I did. Spent a good 15 minutes at the start of Fallout 3 deciding whether to drop my pencils or one of my handguns.

Heh. Yeah, I stashed EVERYTHING in my locker in Megaton that first game. Until I found out which (few) items were actually used for anything.

New Vegas did a bit better, but it still had very specific (and moderately "unrealistic" - I mean, a big wrench as the tool in a gun repair kit?) parts for each recipe.

I remember installing a mod where everything in the world could be broken down into various components and then down into something else it got ridiculous in the end and I remember looking at my collection of horded crap and realising I had a serious problem. I could see myself running away from someone yelling "I need this for the cotton stop shooting at me!"

I think when you have a locker with 4000 scrap metal in it its time to stop.

I worry that the break down components are going to be too broad in scope. Literally you won't have to even look further than the current room you are in to find an item with the component you need.

It might be a little too easy to find the components you want, which in turn could take away that feeling of discovery when you finally find the item you've been looking for like in FNV.

Prefer flaming garden gnomes. It was an required pick up item. Made better by the damaged and intact classification.

The rock it launcher had one serious weakness, it could not shoot the real practical stuff: I'm thinking of weapons: grenades is one, mines would be practical, rockets mini nukes, knives, power firsts.

Shooting nuka grenades. Seriously, if they bring nuka grenades, and allow us to shoot that through the rock-it-launcher, death and destruction will spread in the wasteland...

Fear the garbage, as it may kill you tomorrow.

Mods will fix this if in deed it turns out to be true

Yea, if they don't make it somewhat believable that you could make the stuff you make from the stuff you find, then you will end up feeling like MacGyver.
