I heard there will be all sorts of crafting in Skyrim (Cooking I think is confirmed, But I am not the best at remembering)
And I wonder how will spell crafting work?
Then I wondered if you could make your own spell scrolls, and what would be involved (A use for gems, perhaps?)
Discuss?
I think the confirmed non-skill based crafting systems are cooking, farming, woodcutting, and mining (actually not sure about mining).
The confirmed skill based crafting systems are enchanting, alchemy, and smithing.
Spell crafting in the traditional TES sense is pretty much confirmed to be gone. But now we can equip two spells at once, and there's a possibility that there's some spell combining - one of the articles (I think it was the 1UP article) said that in the demo the player combined a chain lightning spell with a protection spell, forming a barrier around the player that would shock enemies that got too close. If this is actually true and there's a complex spell combination system I will personally forget that we ever had the old spellmaking system
As far as making your own scrolls, I could see this as a part of the new enchanting system.
Edit: I guess farming, mining, and woodcutting aren't really crafting systems, but they are things the player might be able to do that could help you with the crafting. (e.g. farming could get you ingredients for cooking, mining could get you ore for smithing, and woodcutting could get you wood for making arrows)
