Crafting

Post » Mon Nov 22, 2010 4:34 am

I have been searching for a major topic on crafting and haven't been able to find anything, so I decided to start one. We know because of the Behind the Scenes of Skyrim still-shots there is going to be crafting. I wonder what we'll be able to craft in the universe that is The Elder Scrolls. I bet it will be really cool and creative.

I let myself be surprised.

It will be exactly like FNV's and FO3's crafting. It won't allow further customization.

But that is based on those sketches, it could be different.

For smithing, I think we would be able to forge all of the regular weapons and armors up to a certain point, I'd say ebony, because we don't know what Daedric is made of and it should be one off the less common armors, aas in 1 or 2 pairs of daedric. Also, I expect there to be weapons exclusive to a expert smith, say you find a design in some dungeon, or a reknowned smith gives you a old design that he never got around to forging.

There must be a number of items that we could craft, like medical supplies that are fantasy-based would be pretty cool and would add on to the realism of the game, instead of always resorting to potions.

Does anyone have any info on the how skills will affect what you can craft. Is it going to be similar to the system used in New Vegas? With Science Repair Medicine and Survival determining what you can craft?

Well, if mining is integrated properly, then you should be able to craft weapons. I think it should go up to Ebony but that the ore should be pretty rare and only found in dangerous areas considering it's valuable.

Isn't Daedric made from Ebony but enchanted with daedric souls? Meh something similar.

Well if that's true, I guess you could forge Ebony and enchant it with a soul trap? After all enchanting will be its own skill..

"Ebony armor is made by taking the substance and folding it onto itself over and over again into strips, then the strips are molded into the shape of a cuirass or shield. It is one of the best types of armor available to adventurers, second only to Daedric armors. This is understandable, as Ebony is used to make Daedric armors and weapons using a process involving magic practices only known to the lesser creatures of Oblivion."

Guess so.

Even if we can't craft much or there's limited customization, soon enough after it's out a mod will most likely be released expanding crafting. But I hope we'll be able to make everything...clothes, armor, weapons, maybe even furniture/other mundane items. And if we can craft bows or arrows, I hope we can craft both. I loved using the Morrowind Crafting mod in Morrowind to make my own stuff, then enchant it myself as well.

I think the idea of finding new designs for better/unique items in dungeons or for sale would be really cool.
