Crash after installing Dragonborn - SKSE-related?

Post » Sun Aug 04, 2013 9:16 pm

Hi! After a long break from the Elder Scrolls due to moving and studies, I recently got a gaming laptop and am planning to resume my adventures in Skyrim. I downloaded Skyrim (including Dawnguard and Hearthfire) from Steam yesterday, found an old save on a USB and played around with some mods from SkyrimNexus and the Steam workshop. I got SkyUI and had to install and run the game via SKSE for it to work.

Today, I saw that Dragonborn was on sale and bought it. It seems to work fine (the quest has triggered but I'm not yet planning to go to

Spoiler
Solstheim)
. However, I'm currently progressing through the MQ
Spoiler
(just fetched Esbern from the Ratway and am on my way to Karthwasten)
and the game has started crashing. It says "Skyrim has stopped working and needs to close", or what the English equivalent would be. I tried reinstalling SKSE, but it makes no difference.

EDIT: I just discovered it crashes even when I start normally via the launcher, so not sure if SKSE is involved or not.

Here is my load order:

Dawnguard.esm
HearthFires.esm
Dragonborn.esm
Unofficial Skyrim Patch.esp
SkyUI.esp
UFO - Ultimate Follower Overhaul.esp
HighResTexturePack01.esp
HighResTexturePack02.esp
HighResTexturePack03.esp
sos - the wilds.esp
lanterns of skyrim - around cities_bright.esp
masterthetimeandspacetoggle.esp
milk.esp
barenziahquestmarkers.esp
dragon knowledge spell.esp
StaticMeshImprovementMod.esp
StaticMeshImprovementMod-FurnitureChestSnowFix.esp
sos - civilization.esp
RichMerchants.esp
sos - the dungeons.esp
purewaters.esp
hdplants+herbs.esp
Essential followers - all followers.esp
isilnarsil.esp
dr_bandolier.esp

Any help is appreciated.

SKSE cannot crash your game. The problem lies in your load order. If possible, try to update your mods with versions that supports Dragonborn

Try getting the 'unofficial dragonborn/dawnguard patches' as well.

Do you have Skyrim Legendary Edition? If not then buy it because it has all DLC (Dawnguard, Hearthfires, Dragonborn) included, but if you already have it then you'll need to follow this http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1462092-faqs-for-skyrims-legendary-edition/ of how to make Skyrim Legendary Edition properly registered.

So buying Dragonborn as a stand alone DLC is just waste of money when Skyrim Legendary Edition has it all.

You definitely need to use both BOSS, Wrye Bash and TES5Edit (for mod cleaning and for http://afkmods.iguanadons.net/index.php?/topic/3670-crimson-nirnroot-not-being-counted/page-2#entry145648 if you have a mod issue), but don't forget to clean Update.esm and all DLC esm plus get all unofficial patches and read this mod http://afkmods.iguanadons.net/index.php?/topic/3636-mods-made-obsolete-by-unofficial-patches/ of *obsolete* mods made by the http://afkmods.iguanadons.net/index.php?/forum/345-unofficial-skyrim-patches/ (includes the official patches too).

I don't see what you mean, but maybe my post was unclear. Buying the Legendary Edition would be a waste of money since I already bought Skyrim, Dawnguard and Hearthfire on their respective release dates.

Thanks for the tips though, I'll have a look at the patches.

EDIT: Cleaned all ESM files with TES5EDIT, got all the unofficial patches and deleted some files that BOSS found problematic. The problem persists.

SPOILERS BELOW.

I am in The Reach, on the quest where I need to find Skyhaven Temple and Alduin's Wall. I searched a bit and some people seem to believe crashing at this stage is a common glitch.
