crash before game even starts

could use some help. never had problems with my games before and it seems like everytime i try and start up fallout 4 my game goes to a black screen and then just stops working. ive tried running in compatibility mode for windows 7 (i have 8) and that seems to work, until i log out and try to get back in later, then it stops working again. i have it set to where it always runs as an administrator and ive also tried windows borderless. im not sure what else there is to do at this point. im about 4 hours into playing too so i cant return it on steam either. any help is much appreciated.

You should post the specs of the system you're using

Having the same thing! Just downloaded it yesterday.

I click on fallout 4 in my library. The launcher starts and sets the specs. Then I click play and the screen goes black and there is a small circle going round and round and nothing happens! Task manager says it's "not responding"

I have a steam version. My specs:

  • Intel Core i7-4720HQ 3.60 GHz, 6 MB cache
  • 16 GB (SO-DIMM DDR3, 1600 MHz)
  • 240 GB SSD SATA III
  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M
  • Microsoft Windows 8.1 PL (64-bit)

I have the latest GeForce experience with the latest driver

Please help!

Fixed. I did the update to Windows 10 and it works normally. But still don't know how to solve this for 8.1 users.
