Crash. Cra[censored]y crash crash. Acrash.

Post » Thu Jan 20, 2011 7:29 am

Sorry for the "Hey look! My Oblivion is having problems!" topic spam. I'm only posting this in the mod section since 99.9% of my crashes have been 100% mod related in the past. Anyway, I reinstalled Oblivion a week ago (restored my computer about a month and a half ago) and immediately threw in some of the larger mods I've had. MMM, Better Cities, Q3TP, etc. Now, the game has been running absolutely fine until just yesterday. I have WeCPS, Streamline, OSR, etc. So it's been running very well on Very High. Yesterday it would crash randomly if I used a spell. Earlier it was crashing randomly when I activated a door. Now it's just crashing period. I'll load my game, and stand there for 5 seconds and then it crashes.

I've tried the following:
Lowering graphics settings
Uninstalling the only mod I've installed since before the crashing began
Closing every other window and program
Turning off the internet

It still happens. Could be a compatibility issue, which is why I'm posting this here. If it turns out it's not mod related, this can get moved to Tech Issues. Here's my load order:

http://sites.google.com/site/oblivionpoinfo/stabilization/outdatedmods Have you tried a http://www.ehow.com/how_5331553_clean-boot-windows.html? You do not have Fran installed, so remove Mart's Monster Mod - Friendlier Factions MMM+Fran.esp. FYI, Better Cities was updated today. Are you using MMM 3.7b3 because Mart's Monster Mod - Diverse Creature Skins.esp is obsolete now, and I do not think it is included with MMM 3.7. You should update MMM...

I downloaded MMM about 4 days ago o.O Was it updated so soon? And it says in the Friendlier Factions description that it's used for stand alone MMM or MMM+Fran. It's the only other option along with MMM+OOO.

Thanks for the better cities update.

Drop WeOCPS please, at least until you have fixed as many crashes as you can. I really do not think that mod is necessary, and make sure you SL.ini is setup properly. Could you please confirm that this is am mod-related issue.

So you want me to uncheck mods individually per usual? As I said, I rarely have a crash that isn't mod related, but I'm ready to ask for this to be moved to Tech Issues if it's not. And you're a genius for reminding me of the SL.ini tweaks. Just finally installed 3.1, and forgot to do that.

(I liked WeOCPS. Even if it was useless, It made me feel warm every time I heard that ping. Which was often.)

Hearing that "ping" often is not a good sign. Anyway, I want you to confirm that the issue is mod related by running vanilla Oblivion. Uninstall all of your mods, then install them slowly, one-by-one, until you catch the culprit, and you might as well update MMM while you're at it...

OK, is this supposedly new version of MMM hosted somewhere other than Nexus? The last update there was November, and I installed the version I have now on Thursday.

I can untick all of my mods except for one. A race mod. I'll do it.

Not quite sure what the link was for. I don't know how, but I'm not. I downloaded it from the Nexus on Thursday. 3.5.5b4. Huh.

UPDATE: OK, It is definitely mod related. Just played the game as vanilla as it could get without me not being able to load my save. No crash. Now to find out which one it is.

I know where it is. It's just I downloaded it from the Nexus on Thursday, and it says the latest update was November. Somewhat confused, ANYWAY now to find the problem.

Will update MMM, and thank you.

Found the culprit. Ren's Guard Overhaul. That's... disappointing. Guess I'll go back to the whole world knowing I killed a guy in an alley in Skingrad.

Thank you everyone who helped in anyway.

Report the problem to Reneer. He is very responsive. There is a thread below this on that is related to RGO issues. For now, you can use http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=16137 and No Psychic Guards. The latter takes care of crime alarm distance, and the former's purpose is pretty clear. The changes are not as extensive as RGO's, but there are no conflicts to worry about...

I do not have a desktop with Oblivion on it (nearby) at the moment, so that would be rather difficult, haha. Thank you, and you are very welcome.

Happy gaming!

Ive been threw hell and back with mods my friend. i just had to delete the whole game and tons of mod files because the game just whould not start up again. I usually can fixs any problem but nothing i tried whould do any good. When you add files upon files into any game your bound to run across something thats not going to work and needs technical experince to fixs.

i just tell myself not to get mad at the game because alone the game runs about perfect for me and not to get mad at the mods either because not all mods are going to work with each other.
