Hello,

I am experiencing a crash to desktop (CTD) error near the Boston Commons area. When entering the area on foot, or while loading a savegame nearby, the game hits a CTD error. Although I can explore the outskirts of the map in beautiful Ultra settings, the city center causes a lot of loading lag and eventually CTD errors.

I'm not using any mods. Drivers are up to date and the install is Steam-verified. CPU and RAM usage are <30% at all times, and setting to the lowest graphics does not stop the CTD. DxDiag is below.

Anyone else experiencing this kind of problem? Any suggestions on how to get around it?

Take a look at the lower part of the report, it shows problems with your PC. Windows update issues as well as something called USBKeyCredentialProvider.dll. Your windows is having serious issues by the sounds of if, and googling brings lots of possible causes. Asrock RAM driver, faulty Motherboard.

I'm surprised you don't have other crashes or error messages.

With your setup, it shouldn't have long loading lag. Can you time how long it takes to load Boston Commons? You should probably check the integrity of your SSD. As mentioned, fix your Windows update issue. You also have buffer overflow issue with Windows logonUI, the GUI that is shown for login access. Do you notice anything when you login?

I cleaned up the Windows update issues. Windows is now re-activated after the motherboard upgrade.

Fast travel to Boston Commons succeeds after 2:24 loading time, but there is loading lag every 3 steps and CTD happens before I can complete a lap around the Commons.

Benchmark on SSD shows good health with sequential 550 MB/s read, 531 MB/s write, and random IOPS 97K read, 85K write.

So what the heck is going on here?

The loading of Boston Commons is way too long for a SSD. Samsung magician shows everything is okay? Do a test transfer. Copy your fallout 4 folder to another location and check how long it takes to transfer the 25gb data. I assume no mods or any other things done thru console command? Also check your game cache integrity. Also make sure its not corrupted/bad save,

The SSD seems to be OK. Samsung Magician reports no issues and good benchmarks. It took 2:08 minutes to make a new copy of the 25 GB Fallout folder.

My game is not using any mods or console commands. Game cache is verified by Steam.

I started a new save and ran straight over to Boston Commons, but the new save experiences the same loading lag and CTD errors.

Is anyone else experiencing this kind of issue?

Just to test, what happens when you put settings to low? Lower resolution too.

Yap, the SSD is okay. Stop all other processes like virus scan, OneDrive sync etc? I m not sure about SLI. Is there a way to disable SLI and use only one graphic card just to test? If not just remove one temporary and test with just one card. Cos with your setup even with 1 970, you should be able to run everything at ultra at solid 60fps at 1080p.

Obviously he uses the GTX 970 on two screens, and two different resolutions.

The first one with an DVI, and the second one with an VGA connector. (obviously because his screen has only one DVI and one VGA connector, so he uses an DVI to VGA connector on the 2nd screen)

There's DVI-I, DVI-D, HDMI and even displayport 3. Any mix & match combination?

I am running a single GX970 with a USB graphics card (Eclipse-UV150) for a VGA 2nd monitor. I have disconnected this device and updated the DxDiag above to eliminate confusion.

Unfortunately, I am experiencing the same CTD errors even when the 2nd graphics card is removed. The CTD errors when savegame loading or entering Boston Commons remain the same.

Just like the other thread, can it be a save game issue? Tried a previous save or even a brand new character and speed run to Boston Commons just to test?

Thank you for the suggestion about savegames. Unfortunately the same CTD errors occur for a new character. I can load savegames and play the game with good performance as long as I stay outside of the city center.

I managed one trick to gain access to a town nearby Boston Commons. Previously the game would CTD whenever I tried to walk to the town. For the trick I turned off collisions to go through the floor and walk over to the town entrance. Then I turned collisions back on and the game teleported me to the town instance. Inside the town instance, I was able to create new saves and fast travel as needed to continue the game.

I had an out of memory that crashed game to desktop in that area. I have 8gb ram and 2gb gtx 960 running 1080p. Still have bad stuttering and frame rates in the downtown area. Funny they patched Corvega because I never had issues there inside or out.

The error seems to occur in the "CreateShaderResourceViewValidator" function in Fallout4::GFX::System.

I attached the "Debug Diagnostics Tool v1.2" to the Fallout4.exe process during the crash to desktop.

It sounds like a null pointer error to me. "C:\Windows\System32\d3d11.dll has caused an access violation exception (0xC0000005) when trying to write to memory location 0x00000000"

Do you have any suggestions about using alternate versions of the "C:\Windows\System32\d3d11.dll" library?

You can run the DirectX setup again.
