Crash on Save Issue

Post » Tue Jun 03, 2014 9:10 pm

I'm having an issue where my game crashes on save but the game makes a new save with a .ess.tmp file looking like this:

save 976 Garol Dreamshard Breezehome 16.00.52.ess

save 976 Garol Dreamshard Breezehome 16.00.52.skse

save 977 Garol Dreamshard Breezehome 16.02.24.ess.tmp

The save 977 is the new save but does not exist. I've tried reloading previous saves and it doesn't help. I've tried the player.kill trick and that didn't do anything either. I have mods installed but they have been installed all 20 hours I've spent on this character and this only just started yesterday. I haven't loaded any other character for fear of corrupting those files as well.

Does anyone know how to fix this? (short of making a new character)

Save with a "save " command, and see if you get a save without the .tmp extension.

A .tmp extension shows an unfinished game save.

Thanks for the reply Mark! I hate to sound like an idiot, but how do I use the save command? For now I've just been going to the menu and making a new save.

*Also, this issue has been happening with my mage character who uses the mods Archmage Crafting and Midas Magic. When I get home tonight I'll try disabling those mods to see if they were the issue. All my other characters don't use anything from those 2 mods and I haven't had this issue with them before.

Hit Tilde [`] to bring down the developer console.

"Save nameofmysavefile"

name of my save file is what ever you want to call it, just make sure there are no spaces except between Save and the name, or use something like underscore to separate it.

Thanks! I'll try this as soon as I get home tonight. IF this works: should I be able to save regularly with this character from then on, or will I need to save this way at all times?

Hopefully not...something get's wrong (in your game) trying to make a save.

However, this might be caused by a single mod.
