Crash on start

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 1:38 pm

I reinstalled Windows a few days ago and it seems I'm unable to play or mod Morrowind - both the game and CS crash on start (there's a message that the application has stopped working... ) Reinstalling the game didn't help - tried it a few times.

I'm working on an Acer TravelMate 5520G with 2GB of ram and Vista (I know, I know - but it's the only system I've got, besides it worked nicely for the last 2 years...)

Any ideas what could be wrong?

Also, which drivers would you recommend as best for an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2400 XT? I tried the ones I got with my laptop, those from Acer's site and Catalysts 10.2 for Mobility Radeons without success...

Thanks in advance

In case it would help in solving the problem, I can start the CS when the I'm running in 16 bit mode, unfortunately it is impossible to work with the CS in less then 32 bit mode, so it doesn't help me much...

The only thing I know about running Morrowind in Vista is to make sure it installs to a non default directory and to run it in admin mode. Other than that I'm stumped

Sadly, this is not the case - I don't install anything (well, almost) in the default directory and running as the admin doesn't help.

On a sidenote - Oblivion works perfectly, why isn't it the other way around :swear:

It sounds like you know vista pretty well, and i'm sure you already have this turned off, but i'll ask anyway is your UAC turned off? I have vista and i actually have all my games except really old games installed the default directory and it works perfectly. I usually only have problems with that when i try to play really really really old games like GTA I or something. I'm not very computer savy, but when in doubt when it comes to VIsta and you have problems playing video games if your UAC is not turned off it's for sure a suspect.

It's off - not because of the games, but because I find it annoying...
