Crash when fighting dread zombies

This might concern multiple mods, hence the new topic. I'm experiencing a persistent crash when fighting dread zombies (especially with Light of Dawn, and a bow from Adonnay's Elven Weaponry - not yet with Heaven's Fury Claymore). I found only one reference to this problem on the forum, here: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1079991-relz-fcomconvergance/page__hl__+dread%20+zombie%20+crash__st__88 , and the problem was not addressed. Oblivion is also very stable for me, so that's not the issue. Chris1979 mentions Extra Wounding but I'm not using it. Has anyone been able to fix that particular issue? I'm starting to be real cautious with dread zombies now...

A couple of quick general comments and questions:

1) DO NOT user the regular quest+UL patches with BC. Use the BC versions ONLY instead (which you already have installed.) Duplicating patches is not helping.
2) Did you clean Feudal Empire 300? (That is the one that is supposed to succeed Knights of the White Stallion, but actually does not, right?)
3) Make sure you bashed patch is built properly. (Use this as a reference: http://sites.google.com/site/oblivionpoinfo/finishinstall/bashedpatch.)

Thanks for the reply and the comment on my LO, TomLong.

1)I'm not sure what you mean by your first comment. I thought UL patches and BC patches took care of very different and specific issues. Do you see any specific example of redundant patches in there?

2) I installed Feudal empire after seeing the recommendation in BOSS. I used to have KotWS, and I haven't started Feudal Empire yet. I wasn't aware that it needed cleaning...

3) I built my bashed patch for FCOM according to your precious recommendations and hereby take the opportunity to thank you for them :foodndrink:

2) It really needs cleaning, and it requires manual work because there is a bad edit TES4Edit's automated cleaning cannot deal with. You will not be able to save the plugin. Also, unless you find the one floating around who knows where on the net, if you check that plugin in TES4View/Edit, it only replaces the uniforms of some guards. Replace KotWS if you want a real quest mod.

3) Sounds good.


Edit: Rebuild it again after taking out that redundant patch. If you use TES4LODGen, you should rebuild it every time you change your load order, right after rebuilding the bashed patch.

Thanks for the quick reply and the advice. The B&M patch must have slipped by me, it is obviously redundant. And I guess I will have to reinstall KoTWS then, I don't fancy manually cleaning a mod...

There is not much to it anyway, but, yes, manually editing really should not be done by anyone who does not have a lot of experience messing around with mods. However, I think the plugin cleaning guide says exactly what needs to be removed.

Hey there! I had not noticed this before, but I have this strange crash too...

I noticed it only now because I mainly use magic, but I've been wielding LoD for many hours, my game crashes when fighting dread zombies!

Hi Tomlong!

Don't think so... Because it happens with alarming frequence only when hitting them with LoD (at least to me...) I can go on just fine if I zap them with some spells...

Thx! I'll try tomorrow and post my results, as for the last 3 you suggested, are they just an educated guess to solve the Zombie crash, or you're actually saying I should remove them because they're harmful?

And why shouldn't we use Zombies for Body Meshes? I'm betting on it being completely coincidental, but I had a crash at the exact moment I killed a Dread Zombie, and when I removed that plugin and went back, no crash.

I have not looked in that plugin, so I do not know what it does. I guess it is fairly new, so someone should probably report this in the MMM thread, if someone has not already done so.

It doesn't even touch the Dread Zombies. It just adds a "zombie suit" to the NPC Zombies (the racial zombies which can't use the creature mesh/textures, like zombie orcs and Khajiit). It appears the purpose of it is to make the zombie texture work properly with body mods like Roberts and HGEC by giving them a full body suit that essentially removes the body mod and reinstates the original body shape.

Yup, just happened to me again, so:

1. Zombies for Body Meshes has nothing to do with it, as Showler pointed out.

2. It doesn't happen all the time :huh:

Yeah, don't use LOD when you're a vampire... I've had that too. It's too bad we can't just get a message saying 'Light of Dawn? Are you suicidal?" or something.

As for the dread zombie thing, I've had the problem with LOD repeatedly, and once with an Ayleid Cloud bow, one those enchanted bows from Adonnay's Elven Weaponry. It might be a coincidence, but it was exactly the same crash: immediate CTD at the precise moment the zombie dies. And I've never used Zombies for body meshes BTW. But Ishmaeltheforsaken is right: it doesn't happen ALL the time, just very often. I still have no clue why though.

The only difference between the dread zombies and there less dread-ful counterparts is the shader that's applied to them... perhaps that has something to do with it?

[EDIT] Also, I've noticed it happen with Lich Kings as well...

I tried removing them all too, no difference, when fighting a Dread zombie with LoD the game crashes, ususally when dealing the killing blow, but I 've seen it happen even after a couple of hit...

II'm pretty sure this is a LoD glitch, probably has been there for ages without anyone noticing, I can kill them just fine with magic or other weapons...


Could someone else give this a shot? I can provide form id for LoD and Dread zombies as soon as I return home, if someone cares...

Also, I've noticed it happen with Lich Kings as well...


??? I can kill Lich king without problems, I'm sure.... I fought 3 in the same battle, just before the Dread Zombie that made me remember about this thread

Just tried and I also get an instant CTD when using LoD against Dread Zombies. It worked fine with the first one I spawned, then it CTD'd with the next one, which had a different ID. Reloading it CTD'd when I spawned the first variant again. So: CTD's two times of three.

I don't know enough about scripts to check what might cause it, so someone else has to check this out more closely.
