Crash while attempting to load saves.

Post » Fri Jul 22, 2011 8:19 am

Howdy, like with some of the playerbase, I'm having issues. Surprise.

Anyway, I had just purchased OWB. I read about the hiccup at the main menu, so I verified cache after it was done downloading, and there we go. Menu loads good, all is happytime. However, when attempting to load a save of simply 'Continue', it begins to load, but after 1-2 seconds of the loading screen it crashes. I've tried multiple saves with multiple chars, restarting steam / my computer, verified game cache integrity several times...

I dunno what to do now outside of waiting for a patch/hotfix or wait for someone to have a fix here on the forums/steam forums.

Going to go attempt to disable OWB and see if my saves load up properly, but this just started happening with the OWB today.

Several more attempts were twarted by the same crash.

I verify cache when steam is fresh / compy restarted... all file are good to go, nothing missing.

I start it up, try for a save, crash.

I verify cache after the crash, 1 file failed to validate.

Seems to be the constant... something breaks when I try to load the saves / continue... and a file goes insane and has to be fixed.

Just would like some insight on how to fix, as I love this game (and oblivion... morrowind... fallout3...) and want to continue playing. I'm not expecting the lead designer of new vegas to come to my aid, but there's got to be some moderators somewhere that get paid to look at the forums and help others, or just some random person who had the same problem, tried a buncha stuff, fixed it, and can share.

Still have the same problem, apparently I'm alone, since noone else is posting here. Sigh, bought OWB all excited, been waiting all month for it, and now I can't play new vegas at all, let alone the new and exciting stuff.

Well, I've heard a workaround for some people is to either make a new game, or load up an olllldddd save (one that works) and then from there try to load up the saved game you want. It's worked for some people, I tried it and it still crashes.

So here I am.

I had ths issue a few times,i also found reverting back works but then going to your wanted save then fails"frustrating".i succumbed to this and played from my most recent working save."now i constntly save after any major event and also when i turn my game off i use save and then quit,This way im not relying on auto saves. In light of this the new patch has fixed mny issues for me"i love the companion termination consoles by the gun runners etc gj good patch :foodndrink:

Problem is it isn't just one save. It's about ~8 saves over the working one, which is 12 hours behind the newest save.

Quicksave, autosave, and 8 manual saves all failing me. (I've got like... 50-60 saves or so...), so the latest possible save that doesn't completely crash on me, is 12 hours earlier.

So I lost basically 12 hours, 1/4th of the mojave, and a dlc.

Which is why I'm really trying to find a fix, I love this game to death, but I don't want to lose some hard work.

likely this is your only course of action. I lost an entire character with the other dlcs on it. had to go back to a really old one to get it to work. I feel for ya. Did you have the fading black and ghoul sounds glitch as well? cause if you did its likely from the mods you had to disable. My character I cant play right now is using mods right from the get go so thats probally the problem. maybe someone will be able to get a work around up for this problem. we can hope.
