PC Crashes and hits blue screen.

Post » Mon Mar 08, 2010 8:08 am

Whenever I try and have the settings just a little bet above absolute crap, the game crashes within a few minutes. I know it isn't my laptop's fault. I've run a lot better looking games like Mass Effect 2, Dragon Age, Transformers, APB, ect. on this laptop wit no problems. Sometimes it gets a little hot, but I've never encountered issues this bad.

What do?

Whenever I try and have the settings just a little bet above absolute crap, the game crashes within a few minutes. I know it isn't my laptop's fault. I've run a lot better looking games like Mass Effect 2, Dragon Age, Transformers, APB, ect. on this laptop wit no problems. Sometimes it gets a little hot, but I've never encountered issues this bad.

Experiencing this problem as well. Play all the games you've listed too. Fallout 3 as well. For some reason, this game hates my computer. Unplayable until it is addressed.
Do you have the npc/sound syncing problems as well? What about the NPC stutter problem? I have all of these problems. It svcks.

Ditto. Didn't have blue screen o death till I read one fan's fix for the sound. Now it is at the least playable though. I get from 10 min - 4 hours before it tanks.

It is definitely not the computer, I am having trouble as well, heck the patch that I just got made things WORSE! I have a pretty decent laptop that I just bought this summer (intel I7, 4GBs of rams, Win7, and Nvidia 330m 1GB) and can play fallout 3 with no problem. Now I am getting driver errors and general game crashes like crazy. Come-on Bethesda I understand some glitches here and there, but when you release a patch that causes more harm then good, it is unacceptable. But we will see, this is what I get for getting the game right when it comes out.

I can play it, sort of. I need to supplement the air intake as well as

They don't stutter, but sometimes the way they talk looks a little out of sync.

I have a similar rig. I'm running the 240m 1GB though.

Anyone find a way to make it run better? I'm turning off explorer and using a fan to provide extra cooling.

Only thing I can think of is see if your graphics drivers are up to date and if the problem still persists you can try one thing I had to try in Crysis. The game is already set to DX9 as far as graphics go, but i'm starting to think something was tried that didn't work. You could try right clicking on FONV icon and selecting launch parameters then do -DX9 to see if that works. That Parameter will actually force the game to use DX9 parameters and nothing funky. If it doesn't work you can just remove it from the launch parameters.

Same problem here on desktop computer. Your lucky you even get a blue screen.

Also have the same problem with Fallout 3 vanilla version, have you tried that?

No game should ever make your computer bluescreen or crash. Sounds like a software or even hardware issue that is not the fault of the game to me.

I will. I've also read something about NV not liking quad cores. I'm running one, so that may be the problem.

I've heard of Fallout 3 crashing to desktop or freezing up with a quad core and fixing the issue by limiting the amount of threads that FO3 will use. I've never heard of it crashing the computer.

Yeah, it's crashing my computer as well. Can't even get past the opening cinematic. Once it finishes playing, I get the splash screen and roulette wheel loading icon, then bang, instant crash. Sometimes it hangs my computer and my system has to perform a physical memory dump and other times my system just resets itself automatically and reboots.

I'm running an older rig (though still beefy enough for Fallout) with AMD Dual 2800s, 4Gb Dual Channel RAM (1333 Mhz), a Radeon HD 3870 (latest drivers etc) and SoundBlaster X-Fi (latest drivres) with Windows XP 64 for the OS. Like I said, older, but FNV still autosets the graphic quality to High and Fallout 3 ran slick as ya please.

But not good old Fallout New Vegas, just BANG crash right after the opening cinematic.
