Crashes on startup

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 8:23 am

As soon as I start the game up, it runs for about 2 seconds and then gives me a Oblivion has stopped working correctly error message. This is when launching from bash or the obse loader. When I try to launch from the Oblivion Launcher it says it can't find the .exe. Not sure what this means since it's there in the same folder as the launcher.

BTW Vista 32-bit, Oblivion installed in C:Games\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion, running as admin didn't work, patched to 1.2.0.416 (latest one).\

Can anyone help me out?

Has the game EVER worked correctly? If so, what have you changed, if not, where is your system summary?

Yes, I played it 2-3 years ago, and it's been sitting on my harddrive since. I used a directory cleaner to clean out the mods and any unneeded data, while keeping it installed. It didn't work when I tried it out recently, so I tried reinstalling. Uninstalling was weird and left all the files there, but the game seemed not to work. So I manually deleted them and reinstalled.

Try deleting the .ini file in your My Documents\My Games\Oblivion folder....it is the configuration file named Oblivion. Delete it, then refire up the game so a new one gets generated...see if there are any improvements then.

This seemed to work. I think it was because when I deleted the files I forgot all about this folder, and just went to where it was installed.
