Just picked up the 5th anniversary edition, installed, and discovered the game likes to crash after I create a new character and walk up to the gate to make the guards come into my cell. Initially, I thought this may have been caused my mods, so I removed them one by one, but it never fixed anything. I tried a fresh install of simply Oblivion, no SI, no mods, anything. Continues to crash. I uninstalled everything. Deleted all folders, ini files etc, and reinstalled to My Documents instead of my Program Files. Still didn't make a difference. Getting quite frustrating as I'd love to play through the game again before Skyrim is released.

Post a dxdiag.
XP: Go to Start->run, type “dxdiag” and hit enter. Click the Save All Information button near the bottom right. This will save a Dxdiag.txt in C:\ by default. Then open the dxdiag.txt and copy/paste the information into your post.

I wouldn't install to "My Documents" either. You'd be better off creating a C:\Games\ directory (or something like that), and installing there.

Will give that a shot, but i'm not holding my breath.



Do you really want a full DxDiag? It's huge. What specifically are you looking for and I'll post it.

Eh we need it all, we are used to it. We know there is a lot of data in there, but it could contain clues to why its crashing.

Edit after posting DxDiag: I just tried running it in Windows XP SP3 compatibility mode and got the guards to walk down. Guess the game doesn't like Windows 7? Dunno why. Ill drop another post if another issue arises.
