Crashing on Boot-Up

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 2:11 pm

Okay, so I have just recently upgraded to FOSE after a long absence of play from Fallout 3. After attempting to boot it up via FOMM, I get to the "Please Stand By" screen on boot-up, where it then goes to a black screen and promptly exits to desktop. I think this could just be a run-of-the-mill load order issue, as FOSE has a rather sterling reputation. Here is my load list:

Fallout3.esm
Anchorage.esm
ThePitt.esm
BrokenSteel.esm
PointLookout.esm
Zeta.esm
Destruction.esm
CALIBR.esm
StreetLights.esm
HairPack.esm
DarNifiedUIF3.esp
FPS Frenade Hotkey.esp
FPS Grenade Hotkey - Zetta addon.esp
col_uniform.esp
UT3Ironguard_eng.esp
SaviorsArmor.esp
eyes_hairpack_en.esp (Not activated)
1alexscorpionsnipergear.esp
boltgun.esp
WHSpaceMarineArmor.esp
ModestSet.esp
TheOutbreak - WMS Combo Pack - C6H.esp
DanWessonPPC357(CALIBR).esp
GaussCompleteBeta.esp
Hi-Res Weapons & Ammo Textures.esp
SpaceMarineScout.esp
7_HolsterForHandGunsV1_1.esp
JQ-40K.esp
Hi-Res Weapons & Ammo Textures - The Pitt.esp
CALIBRxMerchant.esp
BlackWolf Backpack.esp
BlackWolf Backpack - Vendor Script Replenish.esp
Helmetless Camouflage Stealth Suits.esp
vashdeagle.esp
Echo_UseBothGloves.esp
Destruction - Main.esp
Destruction - Main - Statics.esp
Destruction - DLC.esp
Destruction - DLC - Statics.esp
Destruction - CP - Fellout.esp
DCInteriors_ComboEdition.esp
SoB.esp
DragonSkin Tactical Outfit.esp
japanese_amor_set.esp (Not activated)
UndergroundHideout.esp
SomePoses.esp
F.E.A.R..esp
PowerArmorGloves-None.esp
PowerArmorGloves-Core,Anchorage,Pitt.esp
Silenced 10mm V2.esp
The Mantis Imperative - Mantis.esp
Mantis07Reflex - Realism.esp
Sprint Mod.esp
Realistic Death Physics.esp
1PipboyPDA.esp
FleshBurningPlasma.esp
Cavalry Revolver.esp

Either there is a conflicting mod or a load order issue, unless I am mistaken.

Here is additional information regarding FOSE:

Sometimes deleting the INI file in My Documentts/My Games/Fallout 3 and trying to start the game up again can fix this issue.

As in the Fallout_Default.ini? Sorry, the forum rank next to my name is accurate; layman's terms help.

The issue has repeated after deleting the INI in the game folder.

That type of thing is usually caused by a missing master file or a master file loading later in the list. Double check to make sure you haven't missed anything in your install. It could also be caused by DarN not being installed properly. It's looking for a particular font in the ini file. If it's not listed there, then the game will just shut down. I just noticed that you deleted your ini file. You're going to have to reinstall DarN again or it won't find the font listing there and cause the crash.

BTW, you don't need to boot the game through FOMM in order to use FOSE. Just make a shortcut of the fose_loader.exe file, put it on your desktop or whereever you want it and boot with that. If you right click on it and go to Properties, you can even change the icon and the name so that it looks exactly like the default game launch icon.

This appears to have fixed it. Thank you very much!

Also, I prefer starting it up via FOMM since I mod frequently. Just a force of habit, really.
