Crashing To Desktop issues

Post » Thu Oct 22, 2009 4:38 pm

Hello. Let me bring my story:
I have a Morrowind GOTY version of the game. I am using only Morrowind Code Patch 1.8.

My PC is:
Windows XP SP3 - all windows updates and drivers.
GeForce 8600GT
Pentium4 3,06 GHZ
3GB DDR2 RAM

I have done a system reinstall, i even try the XP SP2 version, i try Vanilla Morrowind GOTY but the crashing still occur.
I have followed tips in the "Step-by-Step CTD (crash) Troubleshooting thread" like MAXFPS-60 , buffer size, i have disabled write combining for video card.
My PC is "clean", no overheating issues, HDD is brand new 160GB 7200RPM.

OK so finally i must ask:

Now we have year 2010 and a long time have passed. Does anybody have found a new solution for CTD?? I have heard that maybe CTD occur when game want to acces some memory block that isn't supposed to do so. So anything new about CTD issues?? I am so eager to play this game because i can't wait for TESV, and i have played Oblivion so many times so i'm just boored with it.

Greetings all.

How often are you crashing?
Morrowind crashes for everyone now and then, especially if you've been playing for more than a few hours.

Many people have reported less crashing after applying the http://www.ntcore.com/4gb_patch.php patch to the Morrowind.exe

Well i have spend all day fighting to find out where the problem is. I have tried 4 different PC, but some crashing still occur. Ok i have found some "WINDOWS MX8" system on CD-R- it's a modificated XP, but i afraid that it is Polish modification - i dont know if there is an english version, because i have found it on CD-R - not in the internet. I have install it and the results are shocking so far! No single crash after 3 hours of playing!! I will continue to play Morrowind on that system to make sure no single crash occur.

PS. After i install that Windows MX8 i have only installed drivers that are absolutely required to play - sound card and graphic card - i didn't install ethernet controller, and other devices that isn't required to play.
I have followed tips in the "Step-by-Step CTD (crash) Troubleshooting thread" like MAXFPS-60 , buffer size, i have disabled write combining for video card.

So we have to anolyse that MX8 system together - maybe that will be a revolution for many Morrowind players!

DAMN!! DAMN!! DAMN!! - Further playing on windows MX8.1 reveal some crashes as well.
Looks like that is pointless and gives no hope for PC morrowind players. How very sad!

I'm so pissed about this so i've decide to bring my old xbox console from basemant, and borrow morrowind game for it. Now i can play without crashes :)

Greetings all.

This is what I get: Event id 1000 - "Faulting application morrowind.exe, version 1.6.0.1820, faulting module mwse.dll, version 0.9.4.0, fault address 0x0001fb2a." For me, these CTD only happens I'm when I'm outside or in transition at a door.

I Forgot to write that i have a PC GAMER's GOTY edition, and i have installed latest MORROWIND CODE PATCH + latest UNOFFICIAL PATCH. - With all that software i'm playing for few moths until now without any single crash. Not even when reloading save.
Do You have PC GAMER's GOTY edition?? And do You have these unofficial patches installed??

PS. Please provide Your system specs. Maybe Dxdiag (try to make it hidden).

Mine is GOTY and it is patched to the latest, as for my computer: Thinkpad T60, Duo Core, 2.4 ghz, 2 gig ram, 100 gig hd, Radeon x1400. But, does that have to do with the Bloodmoon 1.6.0.1820 malfunctioning? Should not the patch itself be repaired or upgraded?

If You are using the windows 7 please turn off UAC, and make sure to install the game to other directory than c:/program files. Also Righ button click on the morrowind.exe and select Properties. After that select the "Always run as administrator" box. Download the "4GB PATCH" and patch the morrowind.exe . Make sure that You have latest drivers for the graphic card and other devices.
If the problem still occur, it will be not bad idea to reinstall windows.

PS. And make sure to use the "4GB PATCH" >>AFTER<< You have installed the "morrowind code patch"

The error is occurring with MWSE, from the looks of that. Do you have any MWSE mods running, or any script-intensive mods? If you remove MGE/MWSE, do the errors persist?

That second bit makes the first unnecessary. ;)

That second bit makes the first unnecessary. ;)

First, if the 'unnecessary' you are referring is for me to wipe my hard drive clean to fix a patch problem... well you know what my answer to that would be.
Second, my box can't handle MGE... unfortunately. I use MWSE for the indispensable Protective Guards without which my fledgeling character would fill Morrowind with headstones. I also use Escog, Reorder Mod and Mlox. Currently I have 112 mods but, even when I had less than 30 without MWSE my game would go down [quite often]. The CTD is not severe, usually it goes down within 15-20 minutes into the game then I immediately restart the game and I get as much as three-five hours before the second crash [I always save indoors]. Always the same, one short crash followed by a long crash. If the MWSE is the problem can it be repaired or upgraded? I should also add that I have SP3.

The unnecessary bit is turning off UAC. Morrowind will run fine with it on, but you do need to install outside of Program Files.

I don't know of any regular problems with XP SP3, Morrowind tends to work pretty well on that. What version of MWSE are you running?

It seems that discussing CTD on this forum has jinx my game. My game crashed eight times in the first 45 minutes then it worked fine for several hours. I wish someone devise a way to deactivate the unsolicited dialogue causes some of these crashes. In the fifties and sixties if you had a product that easly broke, you would say, "made in Japan." Now, when you have a any game that crashes, you say "made by Bethseda." Why do they do it?
First, I just researched User Account Control, I am not using Vista. Second, If it is on XP I would not know how to disable it or what it would do to my computer. As for the game location: C:\Bethesda, MWSE 0.9.4 has there been an update?

I agree with the BD-RE 50GB, it's is not our computers or our individual game setups, it's the product. Surely after nine years Bethesda should have solved the malfunctioning base programing of TES III product by now. So, the question is: What is the problem with this product, what's going on?
