Crashing issues, no matter what I do

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 2:18 pm

I've been lurking here for awhile, but I never wanted to join till I started getting these issues. I can't even play for more than 10 minutes anymore, and my loading times have become extremely long, even on a new character. Below is my load order, do you guys see anything wrong?

Try deactivating Actors Can Miss and Better Water, they might be stressing your system a little too much.

what kind of system do you have? if you have too much for your system to handle, it will crash.

example: i tested out a new game with full RAEVWD and open cities classic, plus appropriate patches, and no other mods (aside from WE's Crash Prevention, Fast Exit, and Stutter Remover), and every ten minutes it would crash because it's just too much for my system to handle before lowering the amount of distant grids to load.

Your page file usage is a little high, but that can be expected on a Windows 7 laptop.

Try updating your sound card drivers.

Ok, I did some testing and I think that the problem is more CPU related. I can stand in an empty cell, like a house, and not crash for an extremely long time. However, when I go into a fort and a lot of NPC's go into combat with me, then I crash. It seems the more NPC's are fighting me, the higher chance I have at crashing.

I guess that means I should use MMM's spawn's reduced, but I fear that this will make the game way too easy. Is it possible to reduce spawns, but increase the chance of a higher level enemy spawning?

Oh, and I also cut out FCOM to lessen the strain on my CPU. Here is my new load order.

1E OOO-WaterFish.esp [Version 1.34] <-- This is not helping your situation, speaking of CPU load...

17 Mart's Monster Mod - Additional Enemy NPC Vars.esp [Version 3.7b3p3] <-- I don't know which is worse...

Edit: WaterFish is definitely worse.

You might consider going back to FCOM then. It's not much different than MMM+OOO when it comes to CPU hit (depending on which optionals you use of course, but that goes in both cases) - plus it has a FCOM_SpawnRatesStronger.esp which does just that.

I removed the ESP's you mentioned above, and it seems the crashing has been reduced a lot! now I only crash every now and then, which is understandable considering my hardware limitations.

I also added back FCOM so I can use the lower-spawns-higher-strength mod, which is exactly what I was looking for.

One more question though. When I was testing stability and installing FCOM, I went into a armor shop and noticed that they have misc items called "Raw ebony", and "Raw Glass". Are these just clutter, or are they used in something?

It sounds like part of a crafting thing. I don't use MMM Hunting & Crafting or OOO's Geomancy & Gem Dust (even thought it is part of OOO itself.) You can use FormID finder when you come across items like that to figure out which mods own them. That would probably help you figure out what purpose the items serve.

Display Memory: 2287 MB
Dedicated Memory: 495 MB
Shared Memory: 1791 MB

A typical shared VRAM setup. Your dedicated VRAM being a bit less than 512MB, if you're using any texture packs you could simply be running yourself out of memory. Anything that causes your setup to rise above 495MB of VRAM usage will eat into the main system RAM to compensate for it. Oblivion is rather greedy about its memory usage and generally doesn't tolerate it when other things eat too much.

So if you're using texture packs, cut back on the resolution they use. You may also need to cut back on anti-aliasing if you're using that.

Huh, formID says that the "Raw Ebony" is from COBL. I guess it is just clutter

Ok, I cut out MMM's creature plugin. What exactly does it do? The description says it adds 1500 new "variants". So will I no longer see MMM creatures?

What MMM creatures plugin? If you mean the variants plugin, it actually increases the variation of appearance for various types of NPCs. In other words, they will not all look the same, something like that... The WaterFish plugin would have a much greater affect on the CPU's load.

MMM ReadMe
"This adds over 1300 New Enemy Variants to Game. Maruaders, Bandits, Smugglers, Raiders, Reavers, Foresters, and more. Some people may have problem using this under stressful condition's. Has game engine has to generate faces on the fly after all. See Npc section for details on Npcs Classes."

If I were choosing, I would try deactivating the OOO plugin before deactivating this.

I have deactivated both, but still have some crashing. Oh well, I guess that's the tradeoff for running FCOM on a laptop.

Laptop and FCOM my Advice really

Try Using the MMM Spawn Rate Vanilla Plugin and FCOMSpawnRateStronger..no other Spawn Rate Plugin..

Remove Safer Roads..Has Spawn Rate Vanilla rates are lower than safer roads..

remove

Extra Wounding
Looting Npc and Creatures
Gems and Gems Dust, Runeskulls Loot G&GD use Runeskulls Loot for OOO instead
More Wilderness Life
Tamriel Travellers is no slouch either on AI I will admit that.

Trim it down to FCOM Only and then try it..Lower Graphics to Medium, turn shadows off, grass shadows off, etc..

IF all esle fails ..Perhaps going to Just Frans.

or even TIE that would be lightest on resource..
