Crazy Little Error Causing Huge Problems

Post » Tue Apr 27, 2010 7:05 am

I've been crashing when dropping certain books, so I was fiddling around to figure this out. I swore that, with book jackets, I wasn't supposed to have the Morrowind book rotate version with the normal Morrowind book jackets, but I crashed anyway. I'd give you a list from the morrowind folder, but for whatever reason, Vista keeps eating my Warnings text (yes, the one in the Compatibility folder. It's done this before too...).

Old Mod list:

[Game Files]
GameFile0=Bloodmoon.esm
GameFile1=Book Rotate.esm
GameFile2=Morrowind.esm
GameFile3=MW_Children_1_0.esm
GameFile4=Tribunal.esm
GameFile5=adamantiumarmor.esp
GameFile6=AreaEffectArrows.esp
GameFile7=bcsounds.esp
GameFile8=Better Bodies.esp
GameFile9=Better Clothes_v1.1.esp
GameFile10=Book Jackets - Morrowind - BookRotate.esp
GameFile11=Book Rotate - Bloodmoon v5.3.esp
GameFile12=Book Rotate - Morrowind v1.1.esp
GameFile13=Book Rotate - Tribunal v5.3.esp
GameFile14=EBQ_Artifact.esp
GameFile15=Emmas_breton_faces_1_0.esp
GameFile16=Emmas_dunmer_faces1_0.esp
GameFile17=entertainers.esp
GameFile18=KS_Julan_Ashlander Companion_1.3.esp
GameFile19=LeFemmArmor.esp
GameFile20=master_index.esp
GameFile21=New Argonian Bodies - Clean.esp
GameFile22=New Khajiit Bodies - Clean.esp
GameFile23=Ranger Tent.esp
GameFile24=Scripted_Spells.esp
GameFile25=Siege at Firemoth.esp
GameFile26=Syc_HerbalismforPurists.esp
GameFile27=Syc_HerbalismforPurists_BM.esp
GameFile28=Syc_HerbalismforPurists_TB.esp
GameFile29=TRIB_witchgirladvent1.esp
GameFile30=Uvirith Unleashed v1.2.esp
GameFile31=Vampire_Embrace.esp

So I added the Book Jackets-Morrowind esp like so...

[Game Files]
GameFile0=Bloodmoon.esm
GameFile1=Book Rotate.esm
GameFile2=Morrowind.esm
GameFile3=MW_Children_1_0.esm
GameFile4=Tribunal.esm
GameFile5=adamantiumarmor.esp
GameFile6=AreaEffectArrows.esp
GameFile7=bcsounds.esp
GameFile8=Better Bodies.esp
GameFile9=Better Clothes_v1.1.esp
GameFile10=Book Jackets - Morrowind - BookRotate.esp
GameFile11=Book Rotate - Bloodmoon v5.3.esp
GameFile12=Book Rotate - Morrowind v1.1.esp
GameFile13=Book Rotate - Tribunal v5.3.esp
GameFile14=EBQ_Artifact.esp
GameFile15=Emmas_breton_faces_1_0.esp
GameFile16=Emmas_dunmer_faces1_0.esp
GameFile17=entertainers.esp
GameFile18=KS_Julan_Ashlander Companion_1.3.esp
GameFile19=LeFemmArmor.esp
GameFile20=master_index.esp
GameFile21=New Argonian Bodies - Clean.esp
GameFile22=New Khajiit Bodies - Clean.esp
GameFile23=Ranger Tent.esp
GameFile24=Scripted_Spells.esp
GameFile25=Siege at Firemoth.esp
GameFile26=Syc_HerbalismforPurists.esp
GameFile27=Syc_HerbalismforPurists_BM.esp
GameFile28=Syc_HerbalismforPurists_TB.esp
GameFile29=TRIB_witchgirladvent1.esp
GameFile30=Uvirith Unleashed v1.2.esp
GameFile31=Vampire_Embrace.esp
GameFile32=Book Jackets - Morrowind.esp

I wound up with this error:
Expression Error Unable to find referenced object "@@@@@@@@ == 1m emb_zmynpc10s" in script emb_mynpcundo.

...

I have no idea what that is. Does it have to do with the fact that the new esp is at the bottom or something? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

I wound up with this error:
Expression Error Unable to find referenced object "@@@@@@@@ == 1m emb_zmynpc10s" in script emb_mynpcundo.

The error above is often transitory, and if you restart Morrowind a few times, you may find it goes away. If it doesn't let us know.

Also, you aren't really supposed to manually add plugins to the list of [Game Files] in Morrowind.ini. I suggest you use http://wryemusings.com/Wrye%20Mash.html to activate them. It's the best tool for the job of managing mods. You can also use Wrye Mash to "repair all" on your current save, which is handy for clearing some problems.

I also suggest you try http://code.google.com/p/mlox/wiki/Mlox it will give you advice on your load order like this:
[CONFLICT]
> 'Book Rotate - Morrowind v1.1.esp'
> [ANY
> 'Book Rotate.esm',
> 'Book Rotate - Tribunal v5.3.esp',
> 'Book Rotate - Bloodmoon v5.3.esp']
| Use ONLY "Book Rotate - Morrowind v1.1.esp" if you have neither Tribunal nor Bloodmoon.
| Otherwise use Book Rotate.esm, and
| If you have Tribunal, use "Book Rotate - Tribunal v5.3.esp"
| If you have Bloodmoon, use "Book Rotate - Bloodmoon v5.3.esp"
| (Ref: BookRotate5.3.txt)

I wanted to use Wyre Mash, but I'm not at all comfortable with loading third-party programs onto my computer (you wouldn't believe how long it took me to try loading mods from planet elderscrolls...). I can handle taking mods from modders I can look up and verify, but third party software on my new computer is kind of pushing it for me. :(

I have mlox, but thanks to Vista, it can't even get a full list of my mods. Is there a workaround for this? (as mlox can't function in my compatibility folder as it isn't under the correct headings for a normal installation... Maybe shoving a copy to my game folders, running mlox, then copy-paste into my compat folders? Blasted Vista...)

Thanks for the heads up on the book rotate. Is there a special exception for book jackets as well? (I have one for book rotate and another for plain morrowind, but I didn't see anything choosing one book jacket plugin over the other?).

Nevermind, looked at the readme for jackets again. It says one for use with rotate and the other without. Excuse my ignorance...

And I didn't change the ini's mod listings, just the data files on the startup menu. I may have changed the fps range and added Bloodmoon's snowflake settings and whatnot (as Vista likes vetoing Bloodmoon's files during installation...), but not the mod listings.

Removed relevant mods (book jackets for morrowind (non rotate) and rotate for morrowind only) and CTD, recieved error list starting with:

Texture "Textures\_land_default.tga" count 3.
Texture "Textures\menu_thick_border_bottom_right_corner.dds" count 2.
Required plugin / master file 'Book Rotate - Morrowind v1.1.esp' not found or not currently loaded.

... with a bunch of Octavo variables being reinitialized. Testing again (I saved right before dropping a book)...
Crashed again, but Vista had eaten the warnings file once again. It's getting rather annoying.

I can't really help your problem, but you really should consider Mash. It is THE tool for Morrowind.

I'm off to see if I can get my warning list back. If I do, I'll edit this post as an update...

UPDATE:

Finally got my Warnings text to stick. The good news? I stopped getting problems with BR Octavo messages. Bad news? I still crash when dropping books. My new Warnings file:

I looked outside and spotted some guards, but all their clothes seemed to be in place. Same with Arielle the merchant of Seyda Neen. The crash only happens to my Khajiit (which is where I first noted problem), but doesn't effect a new char I made a week or so after crashing on my Khajiit (which was only running on Better Bodies, clothes as a demonstration for a friend. No book jackets/rotate for the new one). I can drop books with my elf, but not my Khajiit.

In addition, I poked around google and last saw rtjeb_nin in Emma's forum in relation to CoM. I didn't see any resolutions and its an old thread, so I didn't bring it back up. Could it have something to do with CoM? (but why does dropping books make me crash?)

HOLD ON, why is book rotate before Tribunal!? Will moving Tribunal back up there fix it? Stupid, forgot I had mlox. Checking
For whatever reason, mlox is convinced that the ini is fine when it doesn't match what it says at all. mlox recommends:

Mlox says it should be...

_001_ Morrowind.esm
_002_ Tribunal.esm
_003_ Bloodmoon.esm
_004_ MW_Children_1_0.esm
_005_ Book Rotate.esm
_006_ Uvirith Unleashed v1.2.esp

_029_ TRIB_witchgirladvent1.esp
_030_ New Argonian Bodies - Clean.esp
_031_ New Khajiit Bodies - Clean.esp

... but mlox doesn't touch the ini, even when moved out of compatibility folder into the general Programs(x86)/ Morrowind folder, or even the mlox folder itself. I suppose I'd have to shift everything manually, but will that mess anything up further?

It sounds like you might not understand what you are looking at in the [Game Files] section.

The order of plugins you see in Morrowind.ini is sorted alphabetically, it is not your load order. Load order is determined by modification date of the plugins. If you start mlox, it will show you your current load order in the left hand side pane.

All right, fair enough. I always thought the main three esms came first anyway? Oh well. Any suggestions?

Nevermind, I found a way around it. I don't know why that particular save crashed so much, but I had an identical one (I must have been mod-switching) that works perfectly fine, taking books from the very same chest and dropping them without a problem. I guess my other save is simply corrupted?

Oh well. Now I can get back to hunting down some poor meatbags for my vampire kitty (vamkitty?).

Return to III - Morrowind
