Weirdest thing that's happened to me with Oblivion's AI? First time i'm playing (as a thief) and I steal a horse from Weynon Priory (didn't think to ask for it.) When I get near Kvatch (didn't want to fast travel anywhere) I am suddenly attacked by this priest. Brother... Martin his name was. Couldn't figure it out till I got Kvatch and remembered why i recognized the name. Still don't know why he was roaming the wilderness.
One of the greatest things about oblivion is what I call emergent AI.
It has it drawbacks such as people persistently walking off a ledge and killing themselves, but I will never forget that one time I saw Glarthir go into sneak mode and
actively seeking out and attacking his quest targets before I had started the quest.I only followed him to see why he snuck, but, wow.
I think in your case Martin may have attacked you because he could have belonged to the faction you stole your horse from, and him appearing in the wild was because as soon as he sensed you he headed your way?
That would make sense at least, some things simply dont. People randomly kill people even when I make sure food is nearby and they have money on them. (I thought a while it was because low responsibility+ want to eat = steal food and get killed.) But some NPC's just seem to have a bit of a murderer in them.
Anyway, about this randomly appearing at the Tiber Septim, Im sure there is some fan fiction in that.
Im not all that great of a writer but if I have time Ill write some little ditty about a luckless traveller who gets to deal with this Pandora's box. (As I wrote in a post above 'things just turn up here, no one knows why.')
Some ideas on that would be welcome.
I was thinking something along the lines of: the chicken with the golden eggs meets you were warned.
Duck, duck, duck, dremora.
But if there are more talented authors out there Id gladly hand you this idea to chew on.
Elder scrolls meets twilight zone. Who can resist?
