Created characters star in cutscenes YES!

Post » Thu Mar 03, 2011 11:02 am

In this written interview, http://www.psu.com/Brink-Hands-on-Preview--Aboard-the-Ark--a010883-p0.php

the writter says that his Created character starred in the opening cutscene. I saw an interview where SD said the story follows 3 NPC's so I thought created characters would never be in cutscenes but hopefully it wasn't a typo, or I didn't read it wrong. I'm happy if created characters star in atleast some cutscenes especially if we interact with eachother, that would be cool

Its true. You can see your own character and the others in the cutscenes, which are skippable btw.

Your characters do talk and interact with each other in the cutscenes, I know that. I'm not sure if everyone is in every cutscene, though.

Yea, your created character is in cutscenes. At least that's what I've heard. I'm guessing it's like Halo Reach's cutscenes, but better.

I wonder if personality is determined by archetype.

Think it's random. Would make the most sense imo.

i would think your personality would match your voice but easier for cut scenes if it's random cause if ther's 8 lazy people with a lazy sounding voice than the action packed cut scene will kinda lose something.

Says that your character just stays to the background performing menial tasks, whilst NPCs do all the talking.

Its nice to finally know my character is just part of the team, and thats it. Hes not the hero, hes not the commander, hes not the rookie, hes gets to be himself. His job is to keep watch of the area as the NPCs do their job, and he get to be the badass during combat, its really the perfect blend. I don't want to be the single man to stop the opposition, I want to be the man in the army, just another soldier in the war, the pressure of being the hero can get to be really stressful, I'd rather be supporting the hero, helping THEM in THEIR mission.

greatest thing about that is npc's CAN do things to where as all other FPS games make your guy a one man army and it gets really lame being the only guy doing anything NPC's seem to never actually kill anything in areas where you have to run up while they hold a position you just see gun fire from other side and your guy's are lightin up and nobody is dying on either side... >RAHHHH :gun:

I think the cutscenes might be somthing like the cutscenes from KZ3 multiplayer in "operations" mode. Players that are on the top of the scorebored or did the objective to advance were starring in the cutscene, they did scripted actions such as turning on defences to stop advacing forces.

For example, me and a buddy fight are way to a door that is needed to be destroyed, im beside him protecting him, hes planting the bomb. Once its done the cutscene plays, since he did the objective he plants the bomb in the cutscene and since i was #1 on my team i was beside him, we both run for cover as the bomb explodes, and somone in the top 3 on our teams scorebored is also there running for cover. We the proceed to go through the destroyed door, every game the same cutscene is played with the top players of each team stariing in their cutscene (the enemy gets one to).

In brink this might not work as good for many reasons which im to lazy to list but brink can do somthing like what KZ3 did, im not sure if it will have cutscenes online besides co-op or it will just be skipable

Yea there are cutscenes in multiplayer also.
It when you can customize your guns/characters and buy new abilities, etc.
Or at least that's what I've heard.

I dont think cutscenes will be that long, KZ3 is about 7 srconds, brink is about 25 seconds the most i would think, but KZ3 has cutscenes after every objective thats why there short.

I think it would have a cutscene after every mission then you have a load out menu probably before a game starts. So you would have plenty of time to do, at least, change/customize a gun and purchase abilities.

That's going to be amazing. What I really want though, is to have me and my friends appear in the cutscene.

I couldn't agree more. I enjoy being a regular, rather than Mr. Important saving the world.

On a sidenote: Only Campaign-Mode offers cutscenes, if I'm not mistaken.

Could be the case. I do know that mid-game there are also cutscenes that show you that a certain main objective has been completed. (Remember that ventilation system that stopped working?)

From what I understood they even appeared in multiplayer but you could opt out of them and customize your character and weapons during loading/cutscene time.
I know for sure they are at least in online Co-op I dont see why they wouldn't be in multiplayer.

Aight, so are our characters starring the cutscene, doing the talking and all that [censored], or are they just in the background carrying crates and driving trucks and doing other ''mute'' stuff?

Basicly Your character will appear in the foreground while other characters do all the talking about what's going on. Should you be in multiplayer co-op or 8 vs 8 Your whole team will appear in the cutscenes of the foreground.

In my theory, I think our characters will be like Private Preston Marlowe (from Bad Company 1 & 2) during the BC1 days. Marlowe had to deal with some [censor] assignments from time to time, sometimes would be in the background while his squad did most the talking etc.

I'm in doubt if this is actually true. I think there is a reason why you can chose from different voices for your character - to make those cutscenes more variable.
