Creating different fonts for Morrowind

Post » Fri Sep 24, 2010 9:13 am

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Utilities.Detail&id=69 is a mod which lets you choose a different font for Morrowind, which is useful for people running MW at higher resolutions where the text is very small. However, I've got a problem with this mod, and I can't solve it. I've been in contact with the mod creator but we still can't fix the problem, and I was wondering if any of you have ever come across my problem.

The mod requires you to add 2 font files in the datafiles/fonts folder, and edit the INI font section with the name of the font (Font 0=[fontname]). The problem is that my font never changes. Even if I just change the INI replacing the name of the font with something else. It's like editing the Font section makes no difference at all.

Anyone know why this happens and what could be done? As you can see in the mod comments I've tried loads of things but nothing worked. I don't know why changes to the INI make no difference at all!

What OS are you using? If it's vista or win7 you may be editing the wrong ini. Vista and win7 do funny things with MW.

I'm using Windows 7 64bit. I'm editing the INI file in the Morrowind directory. Which one should I edit then?

I'm going to assume you installed into the default directory. The best thing to do is move your install to somewhere other than \program files (x86)\. I would suggest \games\ or something similar. This will remove a lot of the "virtualization" that win 7 does with anything in the \programs (x86)\ directory. You can also disable UAC, but that can be a problem with security.

You can search for "win 7" on this forum and you'll find threads with step by step instructions on how to get around win 7's eccentricities. :)

Thanks! I fixed the problem! :)

I had to go to a hidden path and find the real INI in a folder called Virtual Store.
