Creating a new character. Torn between 3 choices

Post » Tue Oct 08, 2013 1:54 am

I am just starting out on this game, and am trying to decide between three types:

1: Nord Warrior

2: Nord/Elf Spellsword

3: Nord/Elf/Imperial Battlemage

Admittedly, I am not a heavy gamer, and some games do not come easy to me. I did play Dragon Age, and really enjoyed it, so looking forward to this one. The reason for the aforementioned selections, is that my character would not last long as a mage or a thief. They would attend more of their own funerals than trees in the woods. I am also fearful of playing a straight warrior, as in DA, magic was important, and I suspect it will be equally so in this game as well, so I am leaning toward option 2 or 3.

I have to admit, I play more for the graphics and storyline with strategy coming in second. The second and third options do intrigue me; but, for a novice, I am not sure which one would be better. Also, I do have a secondary question with regards to combat. In DA, it was more point and click; however, in Skyrim, I have read that the user selects the block or attack based off the battle at hand. Is this accurate? And if so, is there an automatic setting that allows the user to select a certain combat style and have it done via the PC?

Any thoughts or advice, with no spoilers?

Thanks all.

Since this is your first time playing, I'd go with the Nord warrior. Id imagine you'll be doing the MQ, and i think i speak for quite a few people on the forum when i say it's most comfortable to be a Nord Dragonborn.

Dont be afraid to use magic though, if you want. My warriors almost always use Restoration, and sometimes a little Alteration.

I think the Nord Warrior would be a great start. Its a good beginner build.

I may be more than a little biased, but go with the mage hybrids.

One Handed with Restoration or Alchemy as well as Destruction for ranged damage. Restoration eventually gives a perk that restores Stamina along with health, which is useful for fighters that consume a lot of stamina.
