Creation Kit Consistently Crashes After a Few Minutes

Post » Wed Sep 28, 2016 10:34 am

Hello,

I'm currently exploring modding with the Skyrim Creation Kit included with my Steam purchase of the game. I do not own any additional downloadable content other than the free "Skyrim High Resolution Texture Pack".

When launching the software, it crashes consistently at approximately 4 minutes and 30 seconds. Nothing is specifically causing the crashes to my knowledge; it crashes around the same time whether I am working on a project or just leave it open without touching it.

I would also like to note I can play my Skyrim game with no technical issues at all.

My computer is a Windows 10 Pro Version 1607 64-bit operating system and I have both the game and creation kit saved on an external hard drive.

I have researched many forums for solutions, but many seem old and only relating to Windows 8.1 and below.

I have tried many things like:

1. Re-installing the Creation Kit

2. Verifying the integrity of the tool cache

3. Restarting my computer

4. Changing the bEnableAudio value from 1 to 0.

5. Changing the compatibility mode from "Windows 8" to "Windows XP Service Pack 3".

However, nothing seems to be affecting this crash (better or worse). It's really a bummer as I was looking forward to building my skills with making games and thought this would be a good place to get my feet wet (so to speak).

Any help or insight would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Open up your task manager and keep an eye on your memory use. If it's hitting 3.5gb CK is running out of memory and crashing.

Usually occurs while loading a lot of exterior cells consecutively.

Thanks for your response. I checked my task manager and it reaches about 700 MB when loading the standard Skyrim and Update Master Files (I haven't been able to get much farther than just opening one interior cell).

When I first open the program and do nothing to it, it crashes after about 4 minutes. The task manager reported only 154.3 MB when it crashed.

Have you done...

1, CK work with only vanillia master loaded (I.E. make 5 minutes worth of vanilla edits without using any SKSE nor any other mods as a test).

2, NOT on line with steam (make 5 minutes worth of vanilla edits as a test).

3, Not while Skyrim is running (make 5 minutes worth of vanilla edits as a test).

4, While in Safemode (make 5 minutes worth of vanilla edits as a test).

Open SkyrimPrefs.ini then found Audio branch and change bEnableAudio to 0.
