Creation kit dont save anything

Post » Sun Nov 18, 2012 11:55 pm

I was making a extension of Hjerim, i saved many times to check if everything was working as it should. Sometime later the free camera got all gray so i had to quit and open creation kit again and load the esp file i saved.
I made some changes for the plaques (because i had forgot one setting so i couldn't take the wep of the plaque, only put it there) and then i saved again to check if the changes was working.
Now i had to save in a different name, so i did, but now the file got only 1Kb instead of 21Kb as it should be, i started the game anyways...now there was nothing at all there.

So, my question is, after you have open your file again and you still see all your work you have done, why doesnt it save everything? the new file will only be 1Kb as i said before..it should be 21Kb

I hope someone can tell me whats wrong, or if i doing something wrong.

Windows Vista and Windows 7 doesn't like to work with user files in C:\Program Files\, so if Steam and Skyrim are installed there, I suggest you move the Steam folder elsewhere, like C:\Steam.

Or you could run the Creation Kit in Administrator Mode and see if that helps.

  • Open the CK
  • Click File menu
  • Click DATA
  • Tick skyrim.esm AND update.esm
  • Select your mod file (DO NOT TICK IT!)
  • At the bottom - with your file selected - click "Set As Active File" (doing that will also tick it and it will say "Active File" next to it
Now click "OK"

You must do that everytime you load your mod into the CK ... if it is not the active file the CK will ask you to save any changes to another file (and so your mod won't work)

I made it in a another way, i just opened the esp i made in CK , deleted the file from the folder and then i could save it again in same name and properly, but your way is just simple and better, but what do you mean by tick?

You can make a check (tick) in the checkbox beside each file ... which is good for the skyrim.esm and update.esm ... but when making your mod file the Active File don't put a check in the box, just select it's name then click the "Make Active File" button (the CK will "tick" it for you ;))

make sure that you do not have the game launched when you have the CK on ... the game must be completely shut down and not minimized ... I had the problem of not possible to save when I used to have the game on even if minimized ....
on the Other hand , I got a very bad bug saving lately where the CK couln't save even if the game was off ... I kept saving and resaving , untill it finally saved but ... deleted all my land data information and the Kbs went from 110000 to 500 ... but I had a backup at least ...
