Creation Kit for Fallout 4

Post » Tue Dec 01, 2015 8:02 pm

CD Projekt RED has announced their so-called modding tool "Mod Kit" for Witcher 3 which is a replacement for the Red Kit.

This is great if you want Roach to be a Unicorn, but pretty worthless for adding NPCs with interesting back stories and Quests.

Will Bethesda give us something at least as useful as the Creation Kit - or is modding actually doomed?

Have they said anything definitive?

CD Projekt RED is probably going to expand the Mod Kit with more features later on. They said sometime in 2014 that they took inspiration from The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim's Creation Kit to make the modding tools have more modding capabilities for the PC version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

Anyways I'm trying to understand why people think Fallout 4's modding tools will be named Creation Kit or Creation Kit 2? I know Fallout 4 runs on Bethesda Game Studios next generation Creation Engine, but I think they will still name the modding tools for Fallout 4 GECK.

It's been called the GECK since Fallout 3, but Fallout 2 had an editor kit, but probably just called the editor.

It's a reference to the Garden of Eden Creation Kit, which is a pretty clever name for the games mod creation kit.

I'm just really, really fascinated to know how exactly modding is going to work on consoles.

Well, I've been thinking about this too, and the best answer I can give, is to look at the PC version of RPG Maker, versus the console versions.

The Console Versions have always been functional, but have always lacked the depth of the PC version, not really allowing for massive customization or custom models, but allowing to work with the base components in the game that are given.

Conjecture only, but it's the best I can think of.

CD Projekt RED pretty definitively said Mod Kit is all Witcher 3 will get. They are done.

Geck and Creation kit share the same family tree. I don't care what the call it. Probably Geck since this is a Fallout game.

I wish GECK was less buggy, but I am actually quite happy with it's capabilities.

Maybe add an interface for Notepad++ to edit scripts, and the capabilities of the PU tools - and I am a happy camper.

Unless they seriously degrade - all about the consoles, don'tcha know...

Since they will be giving us basically the exact same tool they use to build the game, I wouldnt be worried. Plus the GECK is for PC only, idk how you got the console derogation angle for it :/

My guess is the modding itself still is done on console, then mod makers can "apply" to make there mod available to console, then similarity to how apps are added to the Apple store the mod goes through some hoops, to make sure the mod is clean from malice code and compatible with the console.

CD Projekt RED said the Mod Kit is all we are getting for now and said no plans for now for further capabilities added yet. The code word is no plans for now for further capabilities. CD Projekt RED is busy with the patches and the expansion packs. They will release a more advanced modding tool as time passes, but if they do not more PC gamers are going to get mad because they promised a more flexible modding tool in 2014.

I have a feeling the GECK for Fallout 4 will have some more capabilities than what the Creation Kit has for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

It's going to be super interesting to see just what flies and what doesn't. I think Bethesda are gonna have a nightmare trying to persuade Sony to allow this.

We know for sure mods that contain copyrighted materials like mods that have stuff from the Halo video games will not be allowed on the consoles, mods that also have nudity will not be allowed on the consoles at all as well.

Well I would assume steam workshops policies at least, so nothing sixual, nothing highly racist or similar offensive, I can directly say that child killing mods are out for sure. I can also imagen there is a high likelihood any mod that requires script extension might also be forbidden.

As for persuading Sony, Im not to worried, they are well aware Fallout 4 hype and will have a hard time allowing Microsoft to have a edge via the modding.

Bahahahahaa! WHAT?!

We're talking about a game where you can obliterate someone with a sledgehammer into bloody pieces, will be able to slaughter innocent NPCs, possibly enslave them AND likely cannibalize them and mutilate their corpses. But nudity is a no-no? That's quite hilarious.

Man, there is going to be so much outrage over this from console gamers, I imagine. I wonder if they'll actually manage to pressure MS to relax their policies or something someway down the line. MS are pretty desperate at the moment, after all, in the console market at least.

And probably any mod that requires a third-party utility (such as a script extender) also.

So, basically, mods on consoles are going to be largely cosmetic?

See, on copyright, I'm not actually sure that matters for console mods. It certainly doesn't matter for PC mods on the Steam Workshop; I think when a mod author does it, it falls under Fair Use. Unless they try paid mods again, I don't know what will happen on that front.

You'd be surprised what can be accomplished without a script extender.

Most likely yes.

Think of the Halo video games Forge map editor on the Xbox 360. Something similar in that way, just having a bit more functionality allowing you to have new armor and weapons, but not with high amounts of polygons. No ENB mods or high intense graphical mods will be allowed as well I don't think.

Microsoft will issue take downs very fast on the consoles.

No one owns the PC it's why mods with copyrighted materials can appear anywhere on the internet on websites, not just on the Steam Workshop.

Microsoft and SONY owns the PlayStation 4 (PS4) and Xbox One. The PC no person owns the PC at all the PC is a free open platform.

I highly doubt that.

Sounds truly worthwhile. They'll introduce paid ones as well on console at some point, no doubt.

I don't believe they will introduce paid mods again. If you followed the paid mods that appeared on the Steam Workshop in April 2015 there was a massive riot, with 133,000 PC gamers signing a petition in like 4 days. Then the rating for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim on Steam went from 95% or 98% to 84%.

It's consoles though, they'll lap it all up. They'll have some microtransaction in-game currency you buy with real cash or something with which to purchase mods. PC will be left untouched.
