Creation Kit (from Bethesda Launcher) just hangs...

Hey all,

At first, I only had Skyrim on PS4. But I wanted to make mods, so I started figuring out how to do that. Turns out, you have to have the PC version. No problem! My 15-yo has it on his Steam account. So I sat at his machine, went to "Tools" and downloaded and installed "Skyrim Creation Kit" and made a mod so I could marry Erik the Slayer. Then, went to upload it and it uploads it to Steam.

Super. How do I get it on my PS4 then? I Google and Google and find out that there's some magical button in the menu that says, "Upload to Bethesda's site" or something. Whoa, that's not there on my Skyrim Creation Kit!

So I backtrack. I go to bethesda.net and install the Launcher. I go into the Launcher and install the Creation Kit - Skyrim. I just hit all the prompts and up it goes. HEY! THERE IT IS! The link that says, "Upload to Bethesda"! Hot chocolate, I'll just remake that mod (it was easy) and do it here.

Whoops, where are the Skyrim files? Can't load 'em from here. I try and try and all sorts of things keep breaking and I have to Google and Google and it's screwed.

So I uninstall and reinstall. And again.

Then I see that I should have installed it into the same folder as Skyrim (in the /steamapps folder). NO PROBLEM!

I do that, it all works. I go to start Creation Kit - Skyrim (not to be confused with Skyrim Creation Kit) and it unpacks some scripts and that's cool and then it says "Initializing Archive" and it hangs. And hangs. Overnight.

So I uninstall and reinstall. Same thing.

I uninstall, reboot my machine, reinstall. Same thing.

I try variations on the above. Same thing.

"Initializing Archives..." and nothing.

**

So my question is this (TLDR): How do I get it to actually load like it did when it was still in the "/Bethesda.net" folder and stop hanging on "Initializing Archive"?

Also, why are there two Creation Kits? One lets me upload to Steam, one to Bethesda. Since I can't get my PS4 mods from anywhere but Bethesda.net, I need to put them there if I'm ever to use them.

Cheers!

Try running the Creation Kit exe file directly from the install directory rather than from the Bethesda launcher. You only need to use the launcher once to download the CK, once it is downloaded and installed you can skip using the launcher and start the CK directly.

From reading what you said, you have 2 CKs as the first thing you did was "went to Tools and downloaded and installed Skyrim Creation Kit" - which means you went into Steam and downloaded the original CK for the original version of Skyrim. The second time, you used Bethesda's new launcher program and downloaded the new version of the CK for the Special Edition of Skyrim. Only use the version of the game you're intending to make mods for, if you're making mods for console use, private or public, you'll need to use the new version as only it will support Bethesda's site for uploading mods for console use. The original CK has no use when making mods for the new version as it doesn't and will never interface with the console side of modding.

Mate, thanks heaps for that. I'll try starting directly from the folder instead of through the Bethesda Launcher.

And thank you so much for clearing up what was going on with the CK's I had. I hadn't even thought of them being for the different versions of Skyrim.

K, will update here how it goes...
