"Creation Kit has stopped working"

Post » Thu Jun 20, 2013 12:24 pm

Hey. I just installed the CK through steam. When I start it, the black CK logo appear and it loads. When the CK logo disappear a windows message pops up. "Creation Kit has stopped working". I can either find a solution online (yeah right..), or close the program.

Anybody else had this problem and solved it?
I wanna start creating quests =( Please help

/Phil

I'm having this problem too, and it's kind of getting on my nerves horribly.

Also, my Skyrim launcher is NOT downloading anything I sub to on the workshop, so I'm just like what the heck.

I'm experiencing this same issue and wondering if there's some obvious step between installing the CK and utilizing it that I'm just overlooking. I've tried reinstalling it, but the problem persists: upon activating the program, the logo starts up, then, after about 5 seconds, the default object and render windows seem to load fine, but the application crashes before I've a chance to activate anything. Perusing the problem details, windows simply refers to it as an APPCRASH, but I see no provocation or means of avoiding it.

Has anyone else experienced and/or overcome this nasty little issue?

I'm having the same issues, I changed compatibility to xp service pack 3, run as admin, a popup stating "d3dx9_43.dll is missing" I installed d3dx9_43.dll and am back to square 1. While \i was getting the error it did load. I would love to use the CK /frown.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' />

same thing here, get the error window almost instantly as the program loads.

removed d3d9.dll and a couple other dll's to no avail.

learning to never expect anything to work "out of the box".

wondering about the compatibility of any pre CK mods/enb/ini settings etc. tho it seems only a small minority are having this problem.

can't seem to locate any readmes or docs that installed with it, either. ....getting that scowl face thing happening here....grr.

just occurred to me....and I'm off to fix it RIGHT NOW

i was holding back from updating to 1.4 due to the fact that I run Eyefinity and Hayden hasn't released the latest menu fixes for 1.4

this might be a /facepalm moment, but I'll report back after updating to 1.4 either way.

umm, yeah.

/facepalm.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> /facepalm.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> /facepalm.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> /facepalm.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

make sure you're running 1.4 before running the CK.

that will be all.

Do you have to manually update it to 1.4?
If so, how do you do that?

It's available through Steam. The option to update should either be automated or manually downloadable depending on your setting.

Okay, but that doesn't answer my question of how.
To be more specific: How do I make steam check for updates for games?

I come from the Nexus Mod forums to find this one. I'm not allowed to post the link to that page. I am experiencing the same crash upon launching of CK as everyone else in this thread is. There is nothing I am doing to cause this that I am aware of. I launch both from Steam and the desktop shortcut. I have verified the files. I have redownloaded the entire CK three times. I have patched up fully on Skyrim. Nothing works. I have found little info about this since CK just launched. Hoping this thread will pull through.

bumping this out of pity, if nothing else.

did you guys see the other thread that mentioned a problem with having enb.ini and .dll files in your skyrim folder?

that poster was able to fix this by removing those from /skyrim folder. Didn't work for me (I just had to update to 1.4) but it's worth a shot.

I would just make a new folder and throw all your .enb and d3d9.dll files in that real quick, if it doesn't work, just drag 'em back to where they were.

good luck, fellas.

Neither of those files had any baring on the crash. There's something regarding CK and its relationship to either the computer on a rare bug or a file in CK itself that is causing the crash.

Thanks for the bump though. I want to keep this on the front page because I know there are more out there with the same issue trying to google for an answer and finding not a single thing except this thread.

Me and several of my friends are having the exact same problem as reported.

We start it, it crashes. Immidiately, not doing anything, just loads up, then crasht.

It's so damn strange, since it seems to work for loads of people, but it doesn't work for pretty much the same amount of people, and nothing has been mentioned from Bethesda either.
I have it patched to 1.4, I have also tried the "did you guys see the other thread that mentioned a problem with having enb.ini and .dll files in your skyrim folder?" fix.

Nothing works and I'm really pissed of with Bethesda.

Sorry but I'm going to continue to bump this as it leaves the front page quickly. Since it is becoming to look like a bug and not just human error.
