Creation Kit not saving my esp file?

Post » Tue Jul 30, 2013 8:47 pm

I was making a house mod for myself and I clicked on the icon under the edit option in the upper left hand corner and I thought my word would be saved but it wasn't saved..... why? And before I closed the Kit it said if I wanted to save or not and I clicked not because I thought my work was saved...... what the heck is happening????

Have you tried to reinstalling the creation kit ????

or starting with Administrator rights ????

Are you sure it has an .esp extension ????

I found this:

Solution:

This is what I did. For some reason if you save it to the data folder, it's like, invisible. But the only place you can save it is to the data folder apparently. So, what I had to do, was move it...

It's kind of tedious, though. Save your ESP file.Close the creation kit. Reopen it. Click 'save' again. The esp file you just saved should be there. Right click it, then click move to> then documents.

Close creation kit if you want. It doesn't really matter at this point.

The ESP file should be visible now, in your documents folder. Go to your Skyrim directory. Put the file back into Data. Skyrim should read it now.

Make sure to check it on the data files though, when you start Skyrim. In the case that your data files button is greyed out, do this...
(Copied and pasted)
You need to add that line in SkyrimPrefs.ini located in My document/MyGames/Skyrim or something.

And add it like this:

[Launcher]
bShowAllResolutions=0
uLastAspectRatio=2
bEnableFileSelection=1

I was about to suggest, that you are probably making a simple error in how you use the CK, which actually happens to quite a few people in the beginning. It has to do with how you select what already existing plugin file you wish to work on.

However, you seem to have already come up with a determination of the underlying cause, and it seems to be something I usually avoid, so I guess things are fine and dandy, then. :smile:

I might add, that when some software asks you if you wish to save, my experience is, that it usually is because unsaved work exists, and it is generally a good idea to answer "yes". You can hardly blame the CK for not saving your work when you explicitly tell it not to do so.

Also, saving your work is not an inconsequential part of doing your work, and it pays to focus on getting it done. There are things to monitor, like the editor briefly displaying a status text that it is saving, or the notification asterisk for unsaved work disappearing, not to mention any messages the editor might give about simply not being able to save due to certain open windows or such. It should not be seen as a click-and-forget process.
