Creative Mage Tactics

Post » Tue May 14, 2013 11:36 pm

What are some of your favorite and creative ways to use spells? One of my favorites is to cast a Frost Atronach in a doorway or passageway so that enemies can't get around him. Then I cast some Ice Storms which pass through the atronach without hurting him, but killing all the enemies.

All spell tactics are welcome including ones which use spells from the DLCs and even Vampire Lord ones since those are magic too.

I remember the first time I summoned my dremora lord. It was against the necromancer at the end of Merida's quest. I had trouble with this enemy before so I threw a dremora lord in the room and then made for cover. Imagine my amazement when the dremora strolls back to me not even a minute later. I went to look at the carnage and he had even beheaded the mage. I was so proud.

Lord Dagon's philosophy holds true: When you encounter a problem, throw Dremora at it.

I started using Runes a lot when I played my last mage. Great fun, casting a fire rune on some oil and then drawing the enemy in.

This is exactly what I was looking for. I never even thought to use a fire rune on an oil slick!

My current mage is not using runes, but I have used them in the past. I especially liked to throw them behind me as I ran from some bandit which would then stupidly run into every rune I threw. It was so satisfying to hear the explosions followed by the cries of pain.

I had a necromancer that would sneak attack with a bound bow to get a corpse, then use the silent casting perk and a reanimate spell to raise the zombie to help out.

Not sure if thats what your looking for but the silent casting perk allowed me to stay under cover while my zombie did most of the work.

Runes are my No1 fun. Whenever I felt bored however, I would cast magelight on the enemy, making him a moving bulb, paralyze him right before he hits me, then having him enjoy the warmth of a wall of flames

Now that I think about it, I could lay a wall of flames on a corridor, lure someone in, then keep alternating between frenzy and fear on him. Should work

With my low-level sneak mage I liked to cast fury on one bandit at a time until there was only one left and then I would start raising all of the corpses. This tactic never failed to amuse me. It'd be funny if the bandits had dialogue for just this kind of situation.

LMAO at casting magelight at an enemy! I never knew that it stuck to people too! And paralyze is always super fun. It's probably my number one favorite spell.

LOL. Thats pretty much what I do. Dual cast a couple of Dremora Lords, go grab a sweet roll of the nearest table, then walk into the now cleared dungeon/room and loot the treasure/bodies.
