Creatures, Monsters, Beasts

Ah, sorry. See, I didn't mean trolls like Oblivion's trolls which remind me of green, buggy-eyed gorillas, but more the norse type. Though, I suppose, they could always fuse the two. Furthermore, you mentioned the return of a giant, but you didn't go into any descriptions of their variations! With your detailed posts, I would have hoped for some! My mistake, though.

Yeah it got pretty late when i was making this thread and i sorta slacked off towards the end. I could barely keep my eyes open. Plus there is something about the Giants and the Nords so i figured they wouldn't make it in the game anyways if the Nords are friendly to the Giants or whatever that was i heard.

I would like it if they added variety to the creatures they already have, making them different sizes and colors depending on location.
The above mixed with your ideas would make a wonderful wilderness.

I voted for all creatures; except for Witches and Dopplegangers (I don't really see them fitting in an Elder Scrolls game, unless you count female mages.)

I think the more the merrier, and would love to see more versatility than in Oblivion.

Did you read the spoiler section for Witches. It not only mentioned them already but gave a description about how a Witches Coven is in control over a area of Skyrim.

I would love to see Witches make it in. Especially if they had some hexes or spells that would drain your strength or some other stat, they would be hard foes I think. And could be scary coming across one in a dimly lit cave or swamp area.

theres different types of creatures but they all look the same. When you raise levels it goes from goblin ---> goblin warrior and goblin shaman ------> goblin warlord and so on. I think more different monsters will be better. I'd like to see bigger creatures in Skyrim. Although there are mods out there that have created some of these creatures, but i have yet to see some of the ones you've posted.

I suppose I see your point, though they're not so much creatures. More like Necromancers in Oblivion.
Can't really see a difference between them and evil mages, but if they were made interesting, I certainly wouldn't moan at their inclusion.

The thing about mods are some of us poor bast... guys play on Xbox360 and not PC. (Yes I know the PC is the ultimate gaming machine) So mods don't help us out in this regard.

Maybe in some areas. Or you could have a quest connected to a certain lake with it's own personal Loch Ness Monster :) In general I wouldn't want them though... I even thought slaughterfish were annoying whenever they weren't in caves...

Only in really big lakes and in the ocean. Not rivers, not very realistic for monsters to be there (lol that sounded crazy), and not fun.

Instead of an invisible wall in the northern sea, there should be a giant monster eating you and your ship. Duh!

Oh, and I want the slaughterfish plague to be over. That murderous tuna has been in every TES game and it's ridiculous.
I don't get it why almost every wild animal has to try to kill you.

They need more aquatic creatures (myriad slaughterfish are not enough!), like dreugh. Maybe 1 or 2 nautical boss-like enemies in large bodies of water.

Yes I agree.
But more than a dreugh as well... I'm sure they'll think of something, but yes... something big in big waters :D

Anyway, kind of out of topic, but I think it also needs to be "general" fish, like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nW2zCy90TEY
They don't do anything, but... they just add life :)

Definitely needs more water-creatures. In Oblivion you could pretty much swim all the way from Waterfront to Leyawiin without any danger. Also needs more things hidden underwater.

Fallout: New Vegas had some really nice underwater scenery as well as small fish, corals and greenery that made the underwaters much more realistic and nice.

I hope Skyrim follows up on that!

Unleash the Kraken?!

On a more serious note, Norse Sagas are rife with sea monsters, as the Norwegians, Swedes, and Danes believed the sea was an integral part of their being. Unlike the Greeks, for whom Poseidon was not only God of the Sea, but also of earthquakes, horses, and myriad small things, and shares his masteryo of the ocean with his (full-blood) sons that are gods themselves, the Norse dedicated the sea to one deity and one alone. This figure is ?gir, commonly called 'The Sea Giant' but more often that not described as a being 'older than the Jotun (the bad giants)'. He is the guardian of the oceans, taking care of the good and the bad it brings.

Now, if we are to believe (as can be reliably assumed) that the Nords of Skyrim are based in part off the Norse of our own history, it's sensible to think they'd have attachments to the sea, the fjords, and the great lakes of their home. Furthermore, they come from Atmora, leagues away, so then they had to sail, and master the ocean (far better than the Altmer, for all their talk) to reach Cyrodiil.

So, what monsters could we have? Well, as I said before, UNLEASH THE KRAKEN! "Kraken" is originally a germanic word, used to describe the 'many legged spider-creatures of Norse myth.' But these spider creatures, these hafgufa and lyngbakr are not described with jointed legs, but rather tentacles that drag long-boats and fishermen into the sea. The 'spider' part comes from the many legs it possesses. For the game, you could shrink these to... Watcher in the Lake size, from Moria, as an example. Something that can be handled by an experienced hero. If we ever go out to sea, we could encounter a larger one, perhaps fostered by a Daedric lord intent on scaring Nords [censored]e-less, taking advantage of the coming of Dragons and the Ragnarok that is apparently arriving.

Another idea, one that might be more promising, is the Jormungandr. For all of you who play WoW, you might be familiar with the name as a giant, burrowing, serpent-like worm. They only got the 'serpent-like' part right. The Norse Jormungandr is perhaps one of the best known creatures in their mythos (perhaps other than Fenris) for it is he that kills the god Thor and makes the world end. The Jormungandr is known as the World Serpent, for it surrounds the world of man (Midgard) and binds it in place. It is a giant sea serpent that kills gods and holds up the world. For the purposes of TESV, it could be a particularly large serpent the player has to fight at the end of a quest, or related to the dragons in some way. Who knows!

I like the idea of a watcher in the lake type creature. I also like the idea of the Each Uisge in lakes and rivers, however I imagine it would be hard to implement. What do you think?

While I think a many-tentacled monster that attacks from or in the water is probably a nightmare for the artists, I'd also love to see a Watcher in the Water type of monster, as well as something mysterious and Lovecraftian in the depths as a high-level quest challenge or rare random encounter.

The Midgard Serpent and the World Serpent. As Midgard is the world of men, the term "World Serpent" has sometimes been applied to Jormungandr. However, I understand your point. Unfortunately, I've never done any reading that says Jormungandr is a 'worm.' Perhaps a 'wyrm' in that he is a wingless dragon, a long lizard or snake. But a segmented annelid worm? Meh... Not so much. I also don't think I'd be frightened by a big earth worm. Nor could a big worm kill a God. >.> It could maybe catch a God Fish?

I want more EVERYTHING

I want all the creatures from OB and morrowind and all the rest of the ES games back.

morrowind creature will totally make sense BECAUSE, Skyrim is close to Solthstim (spelling?) and the later is close to Morrowind which is now a big lava island, so all the creatures had to escape somewhere right.
