Creatures you'd like to see.

Post » Wed Jul 28, 2010 3:48 pm

The difference in the Bestiaries is as follows

"Yes, one where you could study creatures and gather information about them"
This one you'd have to kill the creature and collect and cook its meat if that is available as well as watch it in the wild and see what it hunts naturally. Also if you were to run into one wolf you might not have written information down that they usually travel in packs.

"Yes, one where data is automatically collected per kill or upon meeting."
This one is pretty simple, you automatically write down all the data about the creature upon killing on, or upon meeting one.

Please post your comments, also feel free to post the types of creatures you would like to see, and if you'd be so kind as to tell us why. You may include mystical creatures, insects, animals, and arachnids.

Please do not make inappropriate suggestions and stay polite to each other.

There was already a lot of fauna in Oblivion and I don't necessarily think that the game 'needs' any more... it might be good to change some of the plants though so have flora native to Skyrim that weren't in Oblivion just as Oblivion had flora that wasn't in Morrowind and vice versa...

The same theory sort of applies to creatures as well. It makes sense for there to be frost trolls, mammoths giants etc. because they are native to Skyrim whereas some creatures that were in Oblivion won't make it in to Skyrim. Based on what we've seen so far though it looks like there will be more beasts and fantasy creatures...

As for the fishing and equipment records it might be all right to have them in the game but I don't think they'd add in to the experience enough to validate even a small amount of developer time being spent on them though... It would make sense however for there to be a bestiary in a book/tome in the game which gives information on beasts and hints at strengths/weaknesses but doesn't explicitly state them like a guide would and not magically record them in your journal or whatever...

I would love there to be more fauna and flora, it adds to the diversity, I would love to see how that would work in
the alchemy system as well, (duck and wisp stalk stew anyone?) maybe they could add 'meals' and edibles
instead of just red potions or green poisons.

Awesome poll
I would love to have a bestiary and study creatures and gain more information about them.
Also, when you have studied a creature enough maybe you get specific perks and to that creatures, maybe deal more dammage to them, get rare drops from them or maybe a perk so they don't attack you :D

About the bestiary, there should just be some book series in a book store that accomplishes this. For example, look at the manual of arms book in Oblivion. While it only discussed brief overviews of different classifications, a series of books discussing different creatures could and I believe should be implemented

Yes, I think that wouldn't be so bad either. It'd at least be better than nothing, and would not be out of the normal for a TES game.

Todd Howard already mentioned a book of lore you can find on creatures in Skyrim on one of the interviews found on this forums. I agree though I want more wildlife I could not stand how Oblivion had lush green forests but had little wildlife and most of the creatures and monsters were not that hard to kill and only had a handful of both animals and monsters. In Skyrim I hope they have more monsters and animals you would encounter and for the flowers and plants I really don't care, whats the point of picking them and making your own potions when you could just buy better ones at the local stores or Guilds?

So is there a book on it in Skyrim or is it an already existing book? I am confused.

He was saying there would be an in-game book describing creatures in Skyrim. I haven't heard of it and I'm pretty well informed, which is why I asked for the source.

Sounds nice, I can see myself being the pseudobiologist with my book in hand. Thanks to clear that up. Too bad we can't take notes and add our own observations though.

If I have to look up something called "Marlogonian interview" than it's not being lazy seeing as how very limited information was provided.

I would like a beastiary that auto-updates, but only when seeing specific actions, e.g. pack of wolves taking down a mammoth etc.
just an idea

That would be interesting. Unlikely though if they won't add horses, but it would be nice.

Here's a thread I made a while back with an idea for a beastiary.

As for other creatures I'd like to see, I would love to see giant snakes in the game similar to what you see in some of the Conan artwork.

I would would quite like to see more flora which can come alive and kill you like carnivorous plants.

As for fauna.
I would like some sort of large crocodilian or shark (or dragon) that makes me actually fear going into water, instead of just slaughter fish.
There could also be some giant basalisk-style snakes or even just normal snakes.
I would also love to see dinosaurs or prehistoric animals other than mammoths and saber tooths. Like raptors.

Gargoyles would be a personal favourite, which can freeze to look like stone statues on castle ruins and fly and ambush you. Lke http://vnmedia.ign.com/nwvault.ign.com/NWN2/creatures/MM35_PG113.jpg or http://www.tattoo.com/sites/default/files/images/!gargoyle3.jpg

I don't know if Dinosaurs and Crocodiles would fit in Skyrim, although I think they are very cool :)
Sharks could be in Skyrim as some can live in cold waters, although they are not as cool as Dinosaurs and Crocodiles in my opinion xD

I agree, especially raptors, they and crocs would be very out of place, sea serpents, and sharks would be alright.
