Erin was searching for a good answer for Ryan's question when her phone rang. She excused herself and flipped open the phone.
"Saylee," Erin quickly replied into the receiver.
"Erin, why didn't you report the incident at the bar earlier? What have you been doing all morning? We could have prevented the victim's death, and possibly jailed the others involved. Now its going to take months to find the witnesses and set a court date! What in the name of Sam Hill were you thinking?" the phone receiver cackled, not able to voice the yelling.
Erin knew she was in trouble. She had really screwed up, but by the time she was at the bar the incident had already occurred.
Erin held her breath for a moment and then began, "Sir, I got... hung up in traffic... And by the time I got to the bar it had already happened. An officer was already questioning what had happened, when a man named Ryan Winchester pulled out a badge and told the officer off. I had no idea wha..."
She was cut off quickly by an infuriated police chief, "Everyone on the force knows how you drive, don't you dare tell me you got caught in traffic! You didn't lend assistance to an officer, and a man died because of that! You just earned yourself two weeks suspension, and when you get back you'll have a desk full of paper work, have a wonderful day Officer Saylee!"
The line ended. Erin closed the phone and put it in her pocket. For a while she just stood by her motorcycle trying to realize what she had been told. She was lucky to even still have her job. Slowly she got onto her bike and turned the ignition. The roar of the bike brought a slight smile to her face, but it soon faded as she left the bar. Silently she swore to never trust an officer with his own job.
Ryan's cost me two weeks pay and fifty bucks. Next time I see him he's dead, Erin thought to herself.
Erin took the long way to her apartment. By the time she had parked her bike and walked up the two floors to her pad it was almost three in the afternoon. Her phone rang again. She looked at it, the Chief was calling again.
"This better be important," she said aloud, and then she answered the phone, "Yes?"
"Erin, you have to describe the officer and this Ryan Winchester guy to me. Its important," The Chief said reluctantly.
Erin laughed to herself, they still needed her help. She decided it was best not to take a jab at her boss and just tell him the info.
"The officer was a male, about my height, brown hair, blue eyes, had what looked like a standard issue pistol, and looked quite new for a cop out in the field. This Ryan Winchester guy, well he's..." Erin paused for a moment, "He's quite the character. He's about six feet tall, tough athletic look, brown short cut hair, and brown eyes. Last I saw he was wearing a flannel jacket, and was not armed. That's all I got Chief."
"That'll be all Saylee," the voice was abruptly cut off as the phone hung up.
Erin spent the rest of the day cleaning up her apartment, after a few days of work she had really let the place go. Within a couple of hours it looked almost as clean as when she moved in. She gave the place a look of satisfaction, and went to her cupboard to find something to eat. She made toast as she wasn't feeling very hungry. She had no idea what the time was because of the dark sky, but she turned in.
