Criminal Status

Hi. Is there a way to remove the criminal status of the player?

Example: I steal something but get seen and the guards are now chasing me. I escape and sell the stolen item to a fence (I created one specifically for this). Does selling to a fence remove the criminal status, and if not, how can I do that when I sell stolen goods?

I'm sure I read somewhere that criminal status is removed after a specific period of time, but I would rather it be removed when I offload the stolen goods.

At the same time: How do I remove the criminal status of a murderer? Is this a time dependent thing, and if so, what is the time limit set on it.

Easiest way is to use http://cs.elderscrolls.com/constwiki/index.php/StopCombatAlarmOnActor and http://cs.elderscrolls.com/constwiki/index.php/SetCrimeGold - though be warned the various mods that change Crime and Guard behavior will not play nicely with this method.

So StopCombatAlarmOnActor to stop the guards from trying to arrest you next time they see you, and SetCrimeGold to ... to do what? Would the gold that the stolen good were sold for count as crime gold? Would setting that to zero remove that money from the player?

No, stolen goods that are sold do not count as crime gold. Crime gold simply refers to the bounty that the player has on his head. So calling player.SetCrimeGold 0 will remove any crime-gold (bounty) that is on the player, thus allowing him to talk to Guards without getting thrown into jail.

SetCrimeGold 0 (be sure to include the space before the 0) will remove your bounty. My http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=23411 mod has a spell that does exactly what Reneer describes.
