A critical look at mp (long read) PLEASE READ DEV...

Post » Thu Oct 21, 2010 5:32 pm

First let me start off by saying single player is fantastic. Very few games can hold my attention for more than one play through and I think this one will. (I hate reruns) I do think mp has everything it needs to be a solid competitor for the fps market. Its just rough around the edges and heres why...

1) When joining with a party why does the game start in 6 seconds? It would be nice to at least have a 30 second wait time to see if the lobby fills. Playing a game of capture the relay with 6 people when a lobby CANT fill is boring.

2) If I have a party of 6 it should wait till there are 4 or more to oppose us rather than spliting us up and starting instantly.

3)Whats with the laggy connections? Im either full green or 1 bar. And 1 bar is so laggy its unplayable.

4) Maps vs Game modes. Let us play all the modes on all the maps. And stop making new lobbies start with the same 2 map choices. It gets old playing the same maps over and over when you have a good variety available.

5) Making people wait soooooo long to unlock the fun game modes is counter productive. So many of my friends want to play classic and hardcoe but hate the other modes so they have given up because it takes so long to rank up. I have over 24 hours invested and I still cant take them into a hardcoe game. I can take them into classic but since most people dont invest the time I do into the game there is no one to play with. By the time most people (would) have enough time invested to play those modes the servers may be dead. The leaderboard says only 181000 people have played to this point. Out of that amount how many are like my friends and given up cause the modes they want to play arent available to them. Yea I know about having patience but lets be real, most players have the attention span of a 12 year old.

6) Assault mode needs to be tweeked. Forcing me to use a gun with a laser sight that announces HERE I AM is just dumb. Where is the stealth in that. Ive played many games of assault and very rarely doe it end in anything besides 2/2. It always comes down to who has dloaded from 1 spot then successfully ran to the next one unseen. Boring. Great concept but bad implimentation. At least give us a toggle on the laser.

7) Whats the black screen of abyss?

8) Whats the blue screen with white dots when you slide or aim (goes away after awhile)on liberty island?

9) Parties getting sent to the main menu randomly?

10) Ive fallen through the map several times (when getting shot) on lighthouse by the ruins on the lighthouse side and couldnt get out or commit suicide.

11) A couple times Ive gotten shot and never left the kill cam to respawn.

In closing let me say I think you have a great game here and I hope it is successful.

I agree wholeheartedly with the input on this page. I play with the player posting this message and I have experienced similar issues with the multiplayer game mode. It would be great to get a patch or something that would fix the issues raised, and create a consistent gaming experience. Hopefully, the developers take a serious look at this, because I imagine this could potentially affect future sales.

I agree with this posting. Mp is great and just needs an update to fix the small problems. The battles can get very intense and make me want to play competitively with my friends. This also allows the meeting of new aquaintences that make great team mates. Fixing these problems now will continue the growth of this game. I am still recommending this game to the friends of mine that don't have it yet. So I still believe in this game. Opening up the game modes and maps on all game modes is a big deal and should be a priority. I never mind ranking up. Game modes should never be included as I have seen many level one nubes start up a new game and destroy the high level players on the other team. So those who can't handle the game mode will either hate it and play another mode or come back to it at another time. Competition breeds competition.

SHEDRED is spot on with his posting. I believe that if this game had a few tweaks it could be one of the best multiplayer games on the market this year. COD BLACK OPS has always been the go too FPS game, but is lacking many aspects that CRYSIS 2 has going for it, for example, great tactical game modes that forces team play rather than the individual play of COD BLACK OPS. Hopefully the team takes a hard look at these issues and can keep me and other friends interested in playing this game and future EA shooter games. The point of creating a game is to hold true to keeping players who spend hard earned money on mature fun games happy and coming back for more.

shameless/merciless bump
non-uberninja
Corrected. :D

On another note, the matchmaking system seems a bit... Off. Is there any ability matching in the option that allows you to jump into a game? I am constantly playing with uberninjas...

It'd be great if an element of this could be introduced (like BF Heroes - the matchmaking system is actually incredible on this game :D). Also, while I haven't experienced some of your issues, if they are there, they need to be fixed. C'mon devs... Pwetty pwease?

Also, I'd enjoy a few games with you two, if you don't mind a non-uber-ninja... I tolerate old fools :P Got plenty in my family :D Especially the drink part. :P

The reason all defenders have a laser in Assault if for the benefit of the attackers. Right now defenders have a major advantage in winning the round so its not like they need improving.

I get that, but if ever a mode was too ballanced this is it. It always ends in a tie regardless of skill. Yea you get a winner by dload points but thats anticlimatic. Defenders have invisibility and that should be enough

It always ends in a tie because its NOT balanced. Defenders win 9 times out of 10.

That's not true. (9/10). I constantly have to run with my laser to the ground or against the wall to hide it. Othewise they see u coming, cloak, wait 4 u to check a different direction and asassinate u. That's what I do when I'm attacking. And I have a positive win/loss ratio. This mode is made for tactical team play so it is either very easy against new or ungrouped teams or extremely intense tactical team competition where either team has a chance to win. Alot of draws happen as well when no attackers win a round and both teams dload the same amount. So the option should be there to toggle the laser on/off.

Sad how I type up a non hate thread about legit issues and cant even get a"thanks for posting" or something from the devs. On the homefront forums I got several nods from the devs in multiple threads. Now I have to check back in every so often to bump this endlessly, or untill I give up on the game?! Cmon and talk to your community damnit. You would talk to people about their name changes but not the game? Get real....
Hopefully when Monday rolls around we will have heard something, anything from you.

I agree with the OP regarding bug fixes, with the addition that some of the modules should actually get some revision (it files under balance issues I suppose but since we're talking about MP...).

Air stomp for example is simply a bit too gimmicky to use a module slot for (I'm aware the higher levels remove fall damage and reduce recovery time). Perhaps consider adding it as an always available ability and change the air stomp module to significant buffs for the air stomp ability to make the module a little more tempting? (Wide range of things you could do with air stomp if that were the case. Things like an energy discharge to sap enemy energy or damage increases on top of reduced recovery time. As it is right now, it's an irritation to ensure you have higher ground and then stomp to guarantee a kill. You might as well shoot them and not bother exposing yourself)

Things like blind spot's third level bonus (low heat while cloaked to people using nano vision) should perhaps be swapped with covert ops (I'm looking at the ceph airstrike protection bonus here) as well so that covert ops is a little more effective and blind spot is...well a blind spot even from the ceph airstrike.

I'm also contemplating whether ADS while sliding would be a worthwhile addition. Reduction in field of view in exchange for accuracy increase (still reduced but improved) could allow for some pretty nice tricks..

Hopefully, everyone there is resting or blowing off steam, because in about an hour, it's going to hit the fan.
I agree with you on most points, but the sadist things I see are:

1. The "Lag." More specifically, the round trip latency; and, the correction code, which probably relies heavily on client-side interpolation (Read "hackable" and hacked) -albeit probably necessary. 100 mSec reported from servers in areas that otherwise report 28 mSec, along with what must be nearly 1.25 Sec warping, is sad indeed. And, yes, I know the drawbacks of Ethernet, as it applies to gaming. We cannot get FIOS here, but TWC is constantly opening up Roadrunners throughput.

2. Lack of communication with those who are willing and able (The PC graphics tweeker, who will probably get no okie-dokie from Crytek or EA for doing what the PC players demanded of the product, and were apparently ignored.)

I know how the folks at Crytek must feel right now, likely why the early release, the shallow hype, the "deflected" dreams. I was a junior , senior, and Chief Software Engineer. Pushed-out product always svcks, and the work turns from fun, to skulduggery.

I hope the ranking backend was down this opening weekend for reasons other than lack of stewardship, but we may never know. It's not just "Minbari" that lie to save face ;)

There are, however, solutions, and people willing to help. We seem to be ringing on "def" ears.

My first attempt (2nd and third as well), made within 20 hours of release. Several of them (I reattempted all of them) probably didn't even get past the web verification script. That needs looked at too. They were all requests to display my screen name (moniker), rather than my fracking e-mail address. No, EA didn't reply either.

So, I made a new account under this soooooo descriptive moniker, and hope to hear something back. Maybe we'll chat about intricate things like adaptive authoritative interpolation (which I'd rather leave to the young and talented hotshots); or, simpler things like scaling-out, issue consolidation, raport, and rapprochement, which Tom and Adam likely realize were paramount last Tuesday, when we started to hit them hard.

I also invited a real life Sniper friend from the 82nd Airborne over to take a look at the weapons and maps. He sounded understandably puzzled about the weapons capabilities, even for a game. I know that digital granularity plays a role in their design, but there may be a simple and acceptable solution to that too.

I didn't start playing this game because I am a nimble-fingered kid with aspirations of big bucks, or big wins. I just wanted to play the most awesome thing since "MicroShaft" told us we had to buy a sith-box$360 to play Halo.

Sadly, what I see, on both sides of the cash register, is as disturbing as the babylonian world around us. I am afraid that I have not only wasted sixty bucks on something that I originally saw as reflective of the hard-time that I put in behind the keyboard; but as well, the time that I put into studying the Crysis-2 system, the situation, and into attempting to report my findings in a helpful way -- before it snowballed out of control.

I am 100% certain that the vast majority of people working on this project are dedicated to producing a quality
FPS for the PC, and are no doubt cringing from all of the negative feedback. They can muck-on with patching their dream, throw their collective hands up, or communicate, consolidate, regroup, and deliver a kick ass game (along with rapprochement for those of us who preordered a white elephant @ $60 for the privilege of being lab rats, and preyed upon by hackers and cheats- yeah I know about release pressures).

In any case, guyz, grab the cat and shoulder your weapons. They're bringing the rain...

Good Hunting,
Cheers,
mit freundlichen GrĂ¼?en.

(I have an AMD Phenom 940 black quad @3.2GHz, Gigabyte Ma790, 4Gig 64-bit DDR1333, HD4850x1GB, 2TB of Caviar Black - defragged; 18,000 KBPS down, 450 KPBS up (broadband with TCP and UDP open as specified in the manual) with 21 mSec to NY and 28 mSec to Chicago. Up-to-date, Cool, and underclocked.)

Everything you see is here ;)
