Crops Won't Stay AssignedWill Not Produce Food

Post » Thu Nov 26, 2015 10:32 pm

I'm at Red Rocket, and have planted 3 Tato, 3 Corn, and 3 Mutfruit. I also have a water pump. I assigned Codsworth to all 9 plants. Highlighting Codsworth also highlights all 9 plants, and in the Workshop menu it shows 6 Food, 3 Water. Sleeping and/or Waiting in a chair for several in-game days (no matter how many 24 hour cycles I try) does not help and no food or purified water is produced.

Once I leave Red Rocket (by foot or by fast travel), when I return NO plants are assigned and they do not grow food. The workshop menu shows 0 Food, 3 Water (yet I still get no purified water in my storage).

I save with everything assigned, and load the game. It loads with everything assigned just as I left it. But once I leave Red Rocket, all plants immediately become unassigned. Completely quitting out and rebooting my Xbox does not fix the problems.

How can I have a Vegtable Starch garden for making adhesives, when Codsworth won't stay assigned, the crops won't produce food, and the pump doesn't add purified water to my storage?!

I just watched my Food go from 6 to 0.

I went to just before the wooden bridge (heading from Red Rocket to Sanctuary), and ran back to Red Rocket. I held the select button and brought up the Workshop menu as quickly as I could, as soon as I entered far enough into the area that would let me bring the menu up. I actually watched the Food count rapidly down from 6 to 0.

If it matters, Codsworth is not roaming around and only stays in one place.

i dont think you can assign companions to do that or anything except when following you??

maybe thats why. its allowing it for whatever reason, but then the game realises it shouldnt have allowed it.

I don't think that's the problem. It allows me to assign him to the crops normally, just like people in Sanctuary. Dogmeat is my follower/companion. I have Codsworth's home set as Red Rocket, but he doesn't roam around, he just stays in one spot. I can get him to move (either by the Go command or by standing in front of him and "bumping" him), but he just stays wherever I move him to.

If I attempt to use the Workshop "X to Move", to change his home back to Sanctuary, the option is dimmed out and I get a prompt that says "This person cannot be moved from this settlement". I CAN swap Codsworth for Dogmeat as a companion, and he moves normally then, but if I send him back home to Red Rocket he just hovers in one spot again. Also reassigning him to the crops produces the same bug once I leave Red Rocket's area.

obviously a companion bug.

have you got any other companions yet?

if not, then just progress the game a bit until you get another.

or try waiting in a bed for at least 24hours straight and see if codsworth moves around then.

not much else to do until a patch comes out. thankfully hes not vital in the respect of gameplay. just use dogmeat as a companion for backup.

you could also try hard rebooting you xbox one. (unplug from power outlet for 30secs or more)

that can solve wonders of games going janky.

I have tried all this, (other than getting any new companions) and it does not work. I stated that already.

Besides you are completely missing the point. The point is that 20 hours into the game and I cannot get my Adhesive Garden working at my preferred home. I do not want to progress any further in the missions because I want to do some crafting and armor/weapon modding before proceeding. I've already used Bethesda's bug report form, but I'm posting here to coordinate with actual Bethesda staff, since they troubleshoot via these forums as well. Plus this is a two way street and I can answer their questions, which a bug report form doesn't allow. Have you ever done any bug/glitch reporting before? I don't think you get how this works.

Your comments are not helpful to me or them in troubleshooting this bug. The reason I mentioned the oddness with a hovering Codsworth is to give the developers AS MUCH possibly pertinent information as I can to help them reproduce and/or work through the Food and Water Resource bug with them to hopefully find a fix.

Here's some new info.

I played around with it for awhile, made Codsworth my companion and had him follow me for a bit. Took him to Sanctuary, then sent him back home to Red Rocket. When I returned to Red Rocket, not only was he not assigned to Crops any longer, but opening the Workshop menu showed NO interaction buttons along the bottom of the screen. It gave me no options at all. No Command option, no Move option, it was just a blank bar. Dogmeat's Workshop menu was still there, however Command was dimmed out.

I planted my adhesive garden and now all my mutfruit trees and tatos are not selectable. I can't even tell settlers to look after the plants.

Looks like the settlement farming system is pretty darn buggy which is annoying as adhesive is the one big pain in the ass to find and is holding me back. This is what I would call a major gamebreaking bug.

Edit: Okay... this is weird. The plants have just started working again and are now selectable in the editor. I was in Graygarden and the Mutfruit trees were not there either and then I harvested a tato inside and suddenly all the Mutfruit trees were then selectable once again. I went back to Sanctuary and all my plants were there once more and I could move them again.

Definitely a glitch by the looks of things. It's not the fact you have to wait for the plants to mature because if that was so then you should be able to edit the location before they were ready at least. I just couldn't highlight them.
