Cross Bow

Post » Tue May 03, 2011 4:46 am

I'd like them, but they aren't anywhere near as important to me as flails. We need some flails.

<3 Flails.

Wow, this topic is expanding pretty quickly. For the record, TES:V needs to have:

  • Spears & Halberds
  • Flails (and other chained weapons)
  • Crossbows
  • Throwing weapons (Stars, Knives, etc.)
  • A better Hand to Hand system
  • Dual wielding (not just daggers. Why not have a Short sword and an Off-Hand dagger, like in KOTOR?)

I voted yes for crossbows and yes for spears. I think the crossbow is a legitimate "medieval" weapon and is just another form of the bow, as to its effectiveness, I'm not sure. Perhaps it could be slightly more powerful than the bow and arrow, but a bit slower. I would like to see throwing stars and darts return, though. What about javelins?

As for spears, of course! Spears are a very common weapon across games such as TES, although arguably useful. I don't want another spear skill, though.

Flails would be a decent addition, perhaps slower but more powerful version of the mace or club? Nunchucks, though? No thanks :|

Bows should no longer just be agility. The effectiveness of a bow should be determined by strength. Just like in real life. I suppose that the skill part of it could be determined by agility.

I am all for crossbows. Very Nord like.

Since Beth has gotten a bit of experience working with guns in video games, having a crossbow doesn't seem like it would be that hard to implement.

I definitely want spears. However, the spears have to be much better than they were in Morrowind.

-I'm not sure about flails. I think it would be too difficult messing with the physics of the game.

-No nunchucks. It wouldn't fit the setting.

?Dual wielding (not just daggers. Why not have a Short sword and an Off-Hand dagger, like in KOTOR?)

Because KOTOR has a completely different combat mode than TES.

I added "Throwing Stars" to the list. I'm thinking about adding bottles. You know, like how in action movies you see people break bottles over other people's heads. :teehee:

It would be great if they included Spears and Polearms into one weapon skill, and either removed Archery and created a Ranged skill, or kept archery for bows and crossbows and added a Thrown skill. The more the better :goodjob:

Wow, I didn't expect this topic to become so popular. :) And 65 votes for yes! I guess the pressure is on for Bethesda to make a crossbow.

On the teaser site, the man on the left of the mage in the center appears to be holding a spear, or a javelin of sorts

I'd like the see the weapons skills resegregated. Or even segregated more than they were in Morrowind. Broadswords, Longswords, Shortswords, and Daggers should all be distinct. Maces, Warhammers, Battleaxes, War Axes, and Melee Staves should all be distinct. Bows and Crossbows should both be in and should be distinct. Heavy Armor, Medium Armor, Light Armor, Unarmored should all be in and should all be distinct. Unarmed should have weapons associated with it like in the Fallout series, so as to make it a serious playstyle choice instead of a gimmick. And yeah, thrown weapons would be nice too. Throwing spears, knives, axes, shuriken, and more.

Oh yeah and melee spears in addition to throwing spears.

This is quite a good idea however it would bulk the major skills quite a bit and I'm always indecisive as to which ones to take already.

Is a poll really necessary? Of course I want a bunch of weapons!

Also more throwing weapons than stars, like axes and spears. Add more katanas if it really is an Akaviri invasion.

Sadly, until I really see this game and what it will be like... I can't post many ideas =/

One thing I think should in the combat with crossbows/bows is that if the enemy has strong armor you need a stronger arrow to pierce through the armor or else it will just bounce off doing only a small amount of damage... but if the arrow hits his head unprotected then the damage should be normal + doing more damage
(while other places such as the leg could slow them down after some damage or in the arm which could make their aim worse or slower at swinging/blocking)

Basically hope they implement a few things like that from Fallout

I don't really care if crossbows are in the game or not, I don't really like them personally, but thats just an aesthetic thing, I think bows look cooler. Same thing with spears, I don't really like throwing weapons.
I don't think there should be nunchuks or throwing stars in the game just because they wouldn't feel right in TES, it doesn't have any other eastern style weapons, except maybe the akavari katana

I don't know why so many people want dual wielding. I don't know that it's realistic, and I don't think it fits. Daggers, maybe, but I prefer a gritty, realistic fantasy over a fluffy, final fantasy.

In regards to polearms and crossbows, I would love to see them return. A return of throwing weapons could also be cool, I think they could do some pretty cool things with them.

- Dual wield daggers - only daggers or similarly small, lightweight weapons.
- spears (as melee weapon, and as throwable)
- crossbow (and repeating xbow - not unimaginable, considering the Chinese had invented it the 2nd Century A.D.
- nets (held in the offhand, meant to entangle the opponent)
- halberds and other diquexe style weapons
- bolas
