Crossbow, Slings or Guns?

Post » Fri Apr 02, 2010 2:22 am

Anyone see any of these been implemented in the release version of Skyrim? I used several mods in both Morrowind and Oblivion to add some of these and with the new dual wield system it could be interesting to hold a crossbow in one hand and an axe, sword, pistol in the other. Just food for thought but it sure would be something that would make Skyrim different from the other TES games.

I think some form of crossbow would be a nice addition, slingshots also would seem to fit well with the style of Skyrim, as for guns though, just NO.

Doubtful, I believe marksman is being renamed to archery and I don't think they're going to put in crossbows again (despite over 200 years passing since morrowind....).

But I would love to see more ranged weapons like slings, javelins, throwing knives, tomahawks, crossbows, etc. Just have to wait and see if mods add them I guess.

Nobody wants guns for several reasons.

1.It doesn't fit the world/theme of the game.
2.It affects immersion in a bad way.Guns dramatically changed warfare when they came into mass use.
If I remember correctly they basically gave up on armor because they couldn't efficiently protect against bullets.
Basically dude who knows how to point and click gun beats elite blade master. Not that the game mechanics would work.

Guns just dont have a place in TES. I agree with deathcoffee though more varied ranged weapons would be nice.

Does anybody know hao many threads that suggest adding guns to an ES game? I would love to see the statistic on that. And then I would like to know how many times it have been a majority that have supported the idea.
Anyway: Crossbows: Yes. Sligshots: Sure, why not? Guns: Just no.

For me it's not about not fitting the world, as time has advanced 200 years and I could see even some of the ancient races like dwemer having invented guns at some point. Plus in our world cannons have existed since the later half of the middle ages. The real problem for me is that guns would drastically change the combat system, and the only way to effectively bring in a gun skill would be to have accuracy dice rolls again.

It really wouldn't be a long stretch for them to add dwemer guns.If you played Tribunal you might remember the part where you use an explosive powder.

It just wouldn't have the right feel for Skyrim,or any other ES game imo.

I'm not a huge fan of adding guns myself but felt it should be brought to the table with Crossbows and Slings.

Now I know that a lot of people say guns don't fit in but were talking 200 years after Oblivion...... Anyone care to look back into the last 200 years worth of advancements we as humans have invented?..... Anyway we won't get in to that...... I withdraw the idea of "Guns"

So if they were to add crossbows would you expect them to be one or two handed or maybe even a selection of both?? Would they work on the same system as bows or use something new/different??

Why does everyone think that 200 years = moar technology derp!

It's been stated so many times by Todd that even though it's 200 years later, it's in fact more rugged/brutal than Cryodill 200 years before! Has central Africa changed much in the last 200 years in terms of technology? Not so much.

and more like fable 2. no, guns are not in and they likely won't be. some one might make mods, there was a mod for MW that had a weapon that resembled a gun (it was a dwemer rifle) but it shot bolts.

I agree Mr. Bear, the destruction of the empire destroyed a lot of groups with the means to advance society

The real problem for me is crossbows, not guns. There's already a precedent for crossbows from Morrowind, which seems like it should be about as low tech as Skyrim. Bloodmoon even added a crossbow to Solstheim.

I only agree with that concerning guns. however using the idea that tech got worse in 200 just seems like a variable as to excuse not putting things like crossbows. concerning crossbows its not going to hurt the game for people who don't care for them and it would make the people who want it happy. nothing wrong with that.

I never was against crossbows in the first place and I wouldn't mind seeing them in, but hell to the no for guns.

The game just never felt like it should have ANYTHING other than standard bows for ranged combat. No guns, no crossbows, no throwing weapons. JUST BOWS.

No to guns, for all the various reasons that have been repeated in many other threads. Slingshots? Yeah sure, why not. I don't know if I'd use them much but the more the merrier. Crossbows? Yes please! And I like the idea of having a small hand crossbow in one hand and a sword or light one-handed weapon in the other. However, I'm not sure how it would work for aiming and reloading, but it would be epic if it could be done!
