Yeah... I just Google translator-ed a few articles off of CD-Action's website... and if the translations are even anywhere close to right, the editors there need to clean up a lot of their 'facts' about Skyrim. Lol

I've just read the article and I'm still sceptical about the crossbows in Skyrim (I have nothing against them, but the article isn't too accurate). The journalist seems like he is not much into The Elder Scrolls lore (e.g. he claims that Morrowind is the western region of Tamriel). He is saying that the mechanics of shooting with bows and crossbows is going to be much more realistic (slower reload, deadlier effects) with comparison to Oblivion where player could make a hedgehog from an enemy but he apparently forgets that Oblivion was lacking crossbows. On the other hand, the journalist seems to be pretty convinced, so who knows.

They don't have a simple-to-use alternative that has better piercing capabilities and is easier to conceal....

I'd like to have crossbows too, but I can see how they'd rather focus on making the core weapons feel good and fun to play with..... I'm actually mostly pro variety -- but I won't complain too much.

But that is what makes the crossbow unique while a bow is used because it is cheaper(compared to a crossbow), has generally longer range. I disagree it would take away from the bow in any way, its the playe's decision on what he will use and besides if they are in you just have to find clever ways to balance them.

For example - Crossbows will of course have rediculous loading times if taken from a more realistic approach and is only suited for assasination type missions or a first strike type of assault. Also the weapon and the ammunition are would be very rare cosrtly to find and use.

I won't be sad if crossbows are missing but I will be excited if they are confirmed.

Which is why they aren't practical when bows are being made more so a weapon of precision and not "Going to shoot 500 arrows into this guard" weapon. I remember the very first time I played Oblivion I got a set of the imperial guard armor doing that exact thing. I had a ton of arrows from the starter dungeon it seemed and I just ran backwards pumping arrows into the guard.

I want to be traveling in the woods/roads/dungeons whatever and see my target, knock a arrow and draw back slowly and carefully aim right for the chest and release.

I totally agree with you -- but someone had to play the devil's advocate. I understand Beth's decision -- doesn't mean I condone it completely ;)

Pete just said on twitter..." Sorry. Gonna chalk that up to mistranslation. Or them making wild guesses. Or both."

Looks like they are NOT in.

Pete all but confirmed they aren't in. Well at least not right now. Maybe they will add them?

Might be wise to edit the thread title, before anyone gets disappointed ... cries bitterly ... goes mental.

I'm pretty skeptical, even being a fan of crossbows. And if bows are really cool it won't be a big deal.

This isn't Morrowind. I don't understand why everyone wants spears and crossbows so much. Spears were over powered in the sense they had a long range and you could just walk backwards and thrust forward. Already made my case about how crossbows were in Morrowind, not what I would want to see in Skyrim.

What scares me is how many other possible mistranslations we've been let to believe are true?

Don't believe anything you read. Just buy the game and enjoy it as it is no matter what you're told ;)

Lol for a second I thought I had somehow offended you. Then I went to the vid lol. I love those Hitler vids. I'm not having that problem but it was screwy last night for a while and it has been very slow lately.

Hehe, nah, it's was all a setup for that vid

Hmmm... how reliable is this magazine, btw? Can we be 100% sure what they say is true? There's always the possibility that they got something wrong ...

Unortunately lately the magazine seems to have dropped their reliability rating. I'd say they misinterpreted something or even used the word "crossbows" without thinking twice or checking other info on the matter. In case of Skyrim I've seen them do similar stuff on their website (in fact once they bluntly contradicted information that came from the devs...).

Edit: Heh, didn't read the last few posts, but it seems I was right...I'm not sure if I ever buy this magazine again...

Yeah, think it's been proven now that they shouldn't exactly be expecting a Pulitzer...
