For those who were wondering, the polish magazine "cd-action" confirmed that there will be crossbows.

Do you have the magazine? If so, can you quote it directly? The original text in Polish -- and maybe a translation if you're in a good mood :)

... Similarly the mechanics of shooting from a bow and crossbow will change. It's not this happy Oblivion where you can turn your enemy into a hedgehog, and he will still run at ease. ...
Maybe not the best translation, but the main sense is there. There was another quote too but I can't find it at the moment.

He didn't say that. He said that kind of request, spears and crossbows etc, wasn't what they focused most on. They were more concerned with making the game better than the last one through solving bigger issues... like how the combat feels, and stuff like that. He said we're not getting "spears in the traditional sense" though..... it's all in one of the Gameinformer videos

Thanks for quote, Pacal. Can we get the untranslated version too? :)

Hmmm... how reliable is this magazine, btw? Can we be 100% sure what they say is true? There's always the possibility that they got something wrong ...

Indeed. Other magazines were mistaken in some of their info, too.

I don't get some people's apathy about crossbows - declaring them to be unecessary because they don't fit with the Nord culture of Skyrim. What's to stop foreign agents, weaponsmiths and dealers bringing crossbows over the border? Ideally crossbows should be much more powerful than ordinary bows (but with even longer re-load times) and should make you think twice before taking on armed city guards that are equipped with them.

As much as a german, russian, norwegian or whateveran magazine ;). It's quite good, and it happened even a couple of times that they got their hands on pre-premier games (like killzone 2), so it's not bad.

I would also like the exact quote, in polish. Do you actually have the magazine?

Well, okay, right. Doesn't prove to me that their word equals fact, but I'll trust them on this -- if it turns out to be wrong... well, then we'll just have to wait for a mod again :)

And s'il vous pla?t, quote in Polish please :)

btw, it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to add the quote to the opening post -- just so it's all clear and visible when crossbow fanatics start waking up over in the US and log in on the forums ;)

Thanks a lot for sharing, but did this magazine get an exclusive interview with Beth?

Anyhow, there's a chance they misinterpreted it, since Todd rarely says things straight. I mean, when asked about spears, he said "not in the traditional sense" and so on. There?s a chance he just said "archery weapons" or some such, and the magazine just translated it into "bows and crossbows".

Doesn't appear to confirm or deny it, from my perspective. All it says is what we knew all along, that they are reworking how ranged weapons are handled. Would be nice if they included a wider range of ranged weapons though, including more than one type of bow.

Right, they are more than likely assuming crossbows are in, since they are talking about marksman weapons.

Eh....... not proper proof in my opinion. But I'll believe that they're in until I hear otherwise.

The problem with this idea is that "ordinary" bows now have the capacity to one hit kill opponents under the right circumstances. Crossbows would just ultimately be overpowered, and BGS doesn't want to put weapons into the game for the sake of weapons. They want to make sure each and everyone weapon is unique and still fun to use. More isn't always better.

if Crossbows are in they probably will be faster but weaker than the regular Bows.

My issue with crossbows is that there will probably not be a very strong skill to effectiveness ratio. A peasant with a crossbow is almost as effective as a soldier with one.

And dont forget, they still have plenty of time to add/remove/change things, that bow overhaul may not be so predominant after all and crossbows can replace them as the slow but sure sniper weapon :)

I wouldn't call this confirmation either; rather it seems the magazine may have mentioned the most common ranged weapons while discussing, well, ranged weapons in a general sense. The translation refers to those two more specifically than I'd expect, though, and the fact that crossbows haven't been mentioned before now doesn't mean anything; neither had polearms, before the PC Gamer diagram.

And I'd expect a crossbow to be more powerful, but slower than a bow...
