crossbows confirmed?

Post » Sat Nov 28, 2015 4:40 am

I'm surprised they haven't been in yet, they should be there simply (bows and crossbows) as hunting weapons with clear additional uses as a stealth weapon....probably useless if you run into something heavily armoured that can shrug of a bolt (or arrow), but then so would a lot of other weapons.

It's just concept art, and a lot of things in concept art don't necessarily make it into the game. We'll just have to wait and see.

Personally won't use them at all. Just not something that interests me.

Congratulations to the fans who will though!

Yes. If somebody else makes all of the parts, all you have to do is properly assemble them. Nuclear reactors are very simple. It's your fissionable material that causes all the problems, and in the Fallout Universe, fusion and fission technology is readily available in battery form. Making and using a bow is far more complicated than you give credit for. There are 300,000,000 guns in the US right now. Again, when survival is on the line, nobody is going to waste their time with low quality bows. The main reasons that firearms became prominent weapons in the first place were that they're far more effective at punching through armor and more importantly, easier for the average soldier to use effectively. When you can purchase a pistol for the price of a case of soda, nobody is going to try to make far less effective, and therefore far less valuable bows.

You truly believe that it is easier to hand craft plasma rifle than.. a bow? Which was my question, if you didn't forget.

If so...sir you surpass my intelligence. I guess Giorgio A. Tsoukalos was right on his Ancient Aliens theory.

Just damn, I wish they had given me knowledge to hand craft plasma rifles and properly assemble nuclear reactors.

Edit: Anyone reading this post google Giorgio A. Tsoukalos. You will be entertained.

Me too. I want a lot of lower tech weapons like bows/crossbows and spears!

I wouldn't say that this is just concept art in the traditional sense. I mean, it is, but look at how it was presented. It was part of a showcase for the game at E3 where the game was revealed proper. I think it stands to reason that while a lot of concept art stuff never makes it to the finished product, I don't think they'd be showing off the stuff that wasn't going to make the cut in an event like that.

And I want that back!

Technically the dart gun is a crossbow, so it's a president, and really the spears from NV are an animation alteration away from a arrow flinging weapon, be it crossbow, long, compound, etc., so I could see it.

The thing with it being around the institute and how it's supposed to be a more high tech area idk. Would have been nice in FO3 though, or among the tribals in NV.

My brother works in a sporting goods store, and whenever I go in there, to the right I see recreational bows and crossbows. For sport or hunting use.
Totally legit.

Killing a seagull with a crossbow, perhaps a reference to the cursed sailor in The Rime of the Ancient Mariner?

Either that or a commentary about how much one hates seagulls! Wasn't it an Albatross in that story?

Yes but to my mind an albatross is just a particularly huge seagull.

I wouldn't mind it, I think it would be cool, and the more options the marier at this point. I remember people complaining on here before New Vegas came out that "it's too mideavel", or that it's "not post apocalyptic". I think by now the walking dead has proven that cross bows and post apocalyptic settings work.

So I can be like Daryl in Walking Dead and carry a crossbow around?

I'd have to say though that reloading for every shot is going to kill you. You think reloading a single/double barrel shotgun is slow, a crossbow is much worse. You basically get one shot and it better kill, and the repeating crossbows you see in movies are just corny IMO.

If it's added to the game then fine, but I wouldn't be using it unless it's somehow better than a rifle.

Corny or not they were in use from (depending on the source) 4 BC - 3AD untill 1894(Granted hopelessly out of date by then)

1997. Battlespire was the first The Elder Scrolls game to feature crossbows, then they appeared in Morrowind, and after that their common presence in the world was retconned from the lore completely when they pretty much stated that the Dawnguard is the only faction in all of Tamriel to even seem to know of the existence of crossbows.

It wouldn't be surprising IMO if crossbows appear in Fallout 4 and/or TES VI, though.

Working percusion cap weapons presuposes a level of technology, material access, and infrastructure that is questionable to obtain in a post technological environment. for just one item (Fulminate of Mercury) Production on any scale above a mom and pop working off of a kitchen stove to make a few dozen a day requires you to have access to pure silicate glass, stainless steel and 99.999% distilled water to keep you from turning your Factory into a hole in the ground. and god help you if you get even a trace (1 part per 1000) of copper in there. EEK!

Potasium Clorate requires that you be Damn sure theres no Sulfer around if your producing it in quantity, and if improerly processed can release a leathal gas

Sodium petroclorate well your kind of screwed if you want to make that stuff plus to make it at a purity where you can load it in a standard percusion cap? even then expect lots of fizzles and misfires untill you can get that mess worked out.

Besides where are you going to get the chloreen fir the last 2 primer mixes

bottles of Clorox? nowdays? Dont make me laugh, you try to use that stuff in most "kitchensink" formulas to make a primer and you better call 9-1-1 in advance thanks to the aditives they put in it .

That doesn't confirm anything but I am pretty excited about it. Hopefully it is in the game. It wasn't in Skyrim until the Dawnguard DLC, so...
