yes there should be crossbows and many others feel that way. but they will not be in the game, so we will have to wait for a crossbow mod I guess.

There were in Morrowind, but there has been no evidence point toward a yes or no yet in Skyrim.

I hope there are though. Having an option over a two handed bow would be nice.
A lighter, faster, less powerful bolt might suit some people over the heavier, slower and more powerful arrow.

Also, it would be pretty sweet to dual wield crossbows in Skyrim.

Were they even good in Morrowind? I never tried them.

i think bethesda's trying to say they don't have any more weapons than what they've already talked about. I thought they've showed a chart somewhere that shows all weapon combinations, and crossbows weren't anywhere.

While it would be nice to have a one-handed ranged weapon, I have alot of fun already with the hands-on feel of TES archery. In reality, I find them to be rather clunky looking and cumbersome so I can live without it.

Did it have "confused turtle" in the bottom right, for two shields?
It also had a poleaxe in it.

I think that skyrim is gonna be a great game but leaving crossbows out was a terrible TERRIBLE call by Todd

That is not the sixiest ranged weapon I have ever seen, just saying. As far as how I feel about them not being in the game, let me put it this way: if it were a choice between dragons or crossbows, I'd rather have dragons.

From the replies in this thread it sounds like it has already been answered. If it's true, then I find it unfortunate. Makes more sense to have them in the game than not, and I'd personally prefer to see them.

What I should've said was that the only way they'd be useful to me is if they were one-handed, otherwise I'd rather use regular bows.

Um, i think you have that a little backwards. Bows were the lighter, faster, and farther reaching weapon, crossbows were stronger and slower because you couldn't hand draw the crossbow because it was too strong. i think.
